Transformers: The Cybertronian Enquirer 07/18/07

Opening Salvo

Well not a lot of news this week. I must say I thought I was going to be visited by Noah this morning it was raining so hard. Lets get on with the show since we’re burning daylight; it’s time to Transform!

Toys: What I got, what they got, and some news too

Well lo and behold I came home today to find TFCC member figure Breakaway waiting for me. This now means out of the exclusive club set we either have two arms and a leg or two legs and an arm. I did have a thought as I was putting him away; when these were released in the Energon line the central pieces were at a deluxe price point while the limbs were at a basic, since we’re paying anywhere between $45-$60 on membership are we getting a deal or hosed? That was the only thing I got this week that was Transformer related. I hope to find more Titanium’s soon since TRU is apparently restocking its Transformers isle with older stock while the movie figures are front and center.

Speaking of the movie; most of you probably know by now that the 2007 Transformers movie has just about broken every record for the month of July including having the highest grossing seven-day totals. Transformers has made back its shooting budget in less than a week. I kinda find some of the records a little silly like “Highest grossing film for a movie on Thursday that happens to be July 5th.” Needless to say pre, pre, production has already started on Transformers 2.

Much like with Nemesis Prime last year SDCC Alternator Rodimus will see general release in the Asian market. No clue why but that might make finding the guy a tad easier.

CMS Corp. who may be known to some of you for their great GaoGaiGar sets are making an action figure of Dai Atlas. From what I’ve read and seen of the figure he will be in the same vain of their Brave series figures, meaning mostly rubber with good articulation.

The most humorous of the news articles of the week comes from Wal-Mart. Late last week a listing for an Ultra Magnus figure appeared on their web site. Judging by the size, price, and description people began to believe it was going to be a U.S. release of MP Ultra Magnus. Some even went so far as to weigh their MP Convoy’s only to discover that Magnus was several pounds heavier leading to speculation that a trailer was going to be included. Since he was in stock many people rushed to order him with express shipping. Well sorry to disappoint but it turned out to be nothing more than Commemorative series Ultra Magnus. Apparently Wal-Mart was able to secure several cases of the once TRU exclusive figure. I for one am disappointed since they are charging far more than they should for him, it’s also interesting to note that the same day this started BBTS put up a listing for a new reissue Magnus; coincidence? I think not.

Well some in box images of MP Starscream showed up on Ebay over the weekend. The box is classics style in a giant V shape. Unlike his Japanese release Screamer will be packaged in Robot mode.

Anybody remember about 5 years ago there was this mammoth 12 disc release in Japan of all the music from the various Transformer series over the years? Well that’s being re-released to include all of the recent series as well as a few bonus Tracks. The Cover features all of the Convoy’s from over the years including Kiss Play Convoy. Also included on the cover is Star Saber who I’m surprised to see since he was not a Matrix barer and not a Convoy. Wonder if this means a reissue is coming down the line?

The Pros and Cons of Being a Transformer Fan: An ode to Michael Bay

This came to me one day while reading some posts by a person claiming Michael Bay has raped their childhood. For the life of me I couldn’t remember the Johnny Cash song that it is based until one night on Ovation they aired a live concert he did. This is meant purely in jest.

Michael Bay, you’ve been livin’ hell to me
You’ve hosted me since two thousand and three
I’ve seen ’em come and go and I’ve seen them die
And long ago I stopped askin’ why

Michael Bay, I hate every inch of you.
You’ve cut me and have scarred my childhood.
And I’ll walk out a wiser weaker man;
Mister Congressman why can’t you understand.

Michael Bay, what good do you think you do?
Do you think I’ll be different when you’re through?
You bent my heart and mind and you may my soul,
And your stone walls turn my blood a little cold.

Michael Bay, may you rot and burn in hell.
May your movie fail and may I live to tell.
May all the world forget you ever stood.
And may all the world regret you did no good.

Michael Bay, you’ve been livin’ hell to me.

Now all I need is the Tennessee three to record it.

Surfing The Space Bridges

Since Wal-Mart is re, re-releasing Ultra Magnus who else would you like to see pop up on shelves again?

The World Around Transformers

This past week I received the Foldboster/Fast Pack set for my YF-19 so I can take pictures of the complete jet. For the life of me I can’t remember ever seeing the Fast Pack set in the OVA but what do I know. This week I have a real treat for you all 1/100 VF-1S Hikaru Ichijo DYRL edition.

Those of you with a sharp eye realize that the larger scale of this mold was used for G1 Jetfire. This is what makes this figure so special; it’s like having a Jetfire in scale with Robot Master G1 Convoy.

I’ve heard over the years that once Bandai bought out the company that bought Takatoku they made a few changes to the mold to make it slightly different from the Macross VF-1S.

I was hoping by now to have the 1/100 scale Fast/Strike parts but Toynami is holding off on those to at least the fall if ever.

It would be nice to have the Anime accurate set for Miria to make a 1/100 scale G1 Jetfire. One can only dream though. I should mention that I remember hearing once in passing something about a very rare MP Toynami DYRL VF-1S. If it does exist that is probably the closest we will ever get to a G1 Jetfire reissue.

Parting Shots

Well short and sweet, just how I like it. Hopefully there will be a tad more news next week for us to mull over. If not I’ll just have to make my own!
