With Rob Zombie’s “re-imagining” of Halloween only one month away from its release in theatres; it seems time to start talking about other horror icons gracing the big screen again.

There has been much talk for years now about a sequel to Freddy Vs. Jason. The idea was that another big horror name would be thrown into the mix such as Ash, Michael Myers, or Leatherface. With talk dying down on that, the focus now appears to be on a possible remake of the original Friday The 13th and Platinum Dunes allegedly wants it in theatres by 2009.

Jonathan Liebesman (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning) had originally been attached to the project when word had first gotten out, but no clue if he still is. When that news was leaked, it was also revealed that he wouldn’t be using Mark Wheaton’s (The Messengers) script.

The original film was released in 1980 and told the story of Camp Crystal Lake and its counselors. A series of bad events had plagued the camp as a young boy drowned, two counselors were killed, and fire had ravaged the entire area. But many years later, the owner decided to reopen the camp and a range of brutal murders begin to haunt everyone at Camp Crystal Lake again.

Take this all as rumor for now but as more solid information is revealed, we’ll get it to you.
