Kace’s Countdown – TNA Impact 8/2/2007

Reviews, Shows, TV Shows

TNA gets closer to Hard Justice, Kurt Angle brings his family and a familiar face debuts having passed his apparent Test elsewhere.

But first…

Stuff

Nothin’ I’m too interested in talking about wrestling wise, since it mostly involves items I don’t really keep up with. ROH had a tournament, but for that I’ll just defer to Pulse Glazer. He knows more about ROH than I probably ever will. There’s also something about Vince McMahon returning in character soon to Raw. Boy, really makes me anticipate that Raw in Fayetteville in just a few weeks… Other than that, I have my own issues.

I bought the annual college football game for the 360, NCAA 08 and so far I seem to be enjoying the Campus Legend mode more than anything else. I also got the new NASCAR 08 game and…how can I put this? This game makes me wonder if buying next year’s model will even be worth it. If you want a competitive, work hard for everything racing game that gives some sense of preparation for would be race car drivers, this is a halfway decent sim. But if you just wanna have fun, forget it. Go play Twisted Metal 2 on the Playstation instead. At least that way, you can blow shit up while driving fast.

Linkage

They may not link me, but doggone it I’ll link them. I’m just a nice guy that way.

Mark Allen talks about some of WCW’s last graduates from the Power Plant. Of the ones mentioned, I liked Sean O’Haire the most. But yeah, it was too little, too late for WCW as far as pushing new talent goes.

Pulse Glazer modestly responds with the latest ROH stuff, including NWA World Championship tournament competitor, Claudio Castagnoli winning the Race To The Top tournament. He also sends lovelies to Gabe Sapolsky. Always remember that in Pro Wrestling, pretty much everything is a work on some level. I’m still one of those crazy people who sees Montreal as a great storyline and nothing more…and despite pretty reliable second hand knowledge, I still see whole Matt Hardy-Lita-Edge triangle as a nice (albeit wasted) storyline. On a positive note, no limos exploded.

Alright, enough of that…

Top 5 Moments – TNA Impact 8/2/2007

Also Ran Moments & Notes

If Kevin Nash decides to dye his hair at this point, it would just be stupid. He might as well keep his natural Oz look.

Chris Harris and Dustin Rhodes have created a nice insta-feud. I still don’t see the point of Chris bringing handcuffs with him, though.

“The Punisher?” So does this mean that he’s gonna show up with a really big gun and start sniping heels?

#5 – Spike TV Piledriver Leads To Team 3D Defeating Eric Young & Chris Harris

With Chris busy fighting with Dustin Rhodes somewhere in the audience, Eric is left to die in the ring. Doing their best Anderson & Blanchard, the Brothers eliminate Eric with the Spike Piledriver. Upong getting the pinfall victory, Robert Roode and Traci Brooks make their way to the ring. Eric’s troubles are just getting started.

#4 – WWBME Combo On Sonjay Dutt

Playing to the Freebirds Principle, the reunited Triple X defeat the team of Sonjay Dutt and Jay Lethal with fundamental heel 3-teamwork. Lethal is taken care of by Elix Skipper on the outside while the actual team representing the trio, Christopher Daniels and Senshi The Former Low Ki, doubleteam Dutt in the ring. Senshi hits the Warrior’s Way Sullivan Stomp, leading to Daniels’ Best Moonsault Ever move, finishing off Dutt in devastating fashion.

#3 – Andrew Martin Arrives, Attacks Christian’s Coalition

A year ago, Andrew Martin was Test and he was destroying ECW talent left and right on Sci Fi. Earlier this year, he finally met his match in Bobby Lashley and figuring there was nothing else left worth dealing with in the Circus, decided to take time off. Now he finds himself in a wrestling spotlight free of McMahons and a silly ring name. Possibly holding some sort of grudge against Christian Cage from their time in WWE together, Martin arrives during a Tag Team Ladder Match between the team of Abyss and Sting and the team of Christian Cage and TNA Original, AJ Styles. Evening the odds for Sting and Abyss, Martin lays waste to Cage, Styles and their ally, Travis Tomko, allowing Abyss and Sting to win the match and as a result, a match between Abyss and Cage with Abyss making the call on what the gimmick will be. The mysterious hand from last week is absent this week.

#2 – Loving, Caring & Compassionate

I have to admit, the entire time I was watching any of the moments featuring Kurt Angle and his wife and child, I kept thinking, “Well at least he hasn’t killed them yet.” Kurt’s a bit of a prick to his wife, Karen in front of the camera. Karen, who kinda has that plastic Brooke Gordon look going finally gets tired of Kurt. He’s tired of his World Titles, but mostly tired of his Gold Medals as these accomplishments seemed to have now become more important to him than his family. Samoa Joe arrives to further antagonize and the fans have his side in the conflict. Karen yells that marriage is now over and leaves. Kurt wants to give chase, but Samoa cuts him off. This leads to a physical altercation between the two bitter rivals that ends with Samoa ripping off some of Kurt’s clothes in the process.

#1 – Robert Roode Parties Like It’s 1979

Jim Cornette once mentioned that with stuff involving tarring and feathering, it depended on the angle from which you were doing it. In Memphis, it was done as comedy while in Bill Watts’ MidSouth it was something of durest and anger. Back in the day, fans would riot when a beloved babyface (Magnum TA for example) was tarred and feathered by a heel tandem. This however is 2007 and in TNA’s Best Feud, nothing is left to chance, even if it means hearkening back to the days of tarring and feathering one’s rival. With Eric Young defeated and in no condition to defend himself after losing to Team 3D, Robert Roode and Traci Brooks arrive to humiliate Eric by beating him up a little more, then pouring what appears to be honey on his chest and then covering him in feathers from a pillow. It makes for a lasting impression in a feud that seems to get more intense by the week.

I’ll see you again next week for another edition of Kace’s Countdown for TNA Impact. Buh-bye.
