Top 400 Moments Of The L Word

#380 – A MacCutcheon For Sure (Lacy Lilting Lyrics)

Shane’s father, Gabe is in town and that cannot be good. Having taken care of her little brother, Shay since the end of the Season 4 premiere (Legend In The Making), Shane’s become attached to him and has discovered her own parental instincts. However, Gabe is here and he’s making it clear that Shay’s going back to Oregon with him today. Shane protests, but Gabe brings up the issues of legality, citing that a judge would most probably give him the nod over the issue if Shane decided to take him to court. And if the judge didn’t, that Shay would wind up in a foster home like Shane did, which Shane doesn’t want. Later that day, Gabe will have his way with Shay leaving. Shane is none too happy about it.

#379 – High Ho (Lesson Number One)

“We’ve all been whores at some point in our lives,” is the theme here as Helena’s friends try to assure that if she pays off her debt to Catherine Rothberg by having sex with her that they won’t look down on her for it. Helena’s still uncomfortable about the idea, as Alice, Jenny, Kit and eventually Papi try let her know that it’s okay. A funny moment here as Jenny is referred as the, “Princess Of Darkness,” by Kit, hinting that things are not well between some of the Group Of Friends and Jenny’s Lez Girls writings in the New Yorker. Kit decides to make Helena feel better about referencing an earlier experience in her life where she gave a blow job to a man for the sake of getting high. Kit claims that she was a, “High Ho.”

#378 – Getting The Blessing (Labyrinth)

Dana & Tonya’s stereo bacholerette party is taking place at the Planet as they celebrate their engagement and being on the verge of marriage. Invited to the festivities is Dana’s ultra conservative mother, Sharon who while hanging out with Tonya’s eccentric mother feels uncomfortable at the gratuity surrounding her. Eventually comes time for the toasts and up to the stage to give hers is Sharon. Alice, Dana’s heartbroken just-a-friend arrives just as Sharon begins to speak. Sharon talks about how she and her family were not so accepting at first at Dana’s sexual preference, but Tonya has proven to provide quite the turnaround in their mindset. Sharon gives her blessing to her daughter, Dana and her daughter’s fiancee, Tonya. Alice looks down, knowing that with Sharon now onboard the Dana & Tonya ship, there may be no hope for her and Dana getting together now.

#377 – Bette & Candace Check In (Limb From Limb)

It had started off as a simple kiss a couple of episodes prior and sexual tension after that. But now it’s too much for Bette to bear as she has gotten into Candace’s truck wanting her to take her somewhere. That somewhere in question winds up becoming a cottage inn, presumably far away from West Hollywood. Bette and Candace engage a heated affair with Bette, arguably something of a control freak finds herself now under Candace’s command in bed. Bette’s partner, Tina is unaware of what’s happening as are anyone else.

#376 – Angus, Ever Supportive (Left Hand Of The Goddess)

At Shane’s bachelor party, Kit informs Angus that she’s pregnant. Angus, letting the reality sink in for a second begins to smile in excitement as he may become a father, until Kit make it clear to him that this is not a good thing. Kit, feeling that she’s past the point of being able to be a mother and remembering her past failure as a mother to David doesn’t like the idea of being pregnant. Angus quickly changes up his emotion, setting aside his own wishes for that of his girlfriend’s. He lets her know that if she decides to have the child then he’ll take on as many jobs as possible to make sure that the child is cared for and raised, but if Kit wants to abort, he’ll be there to hold her hand as the procedure is done. Either way, he’ll be there for her, even if one of the options is none desirable to him.

#375 – Turn The Naughty On (Lifeline)

Carmen AKA DJ Sugar is DJ’ing at Wax and beginning to be a bit flirtatious with some male patrons who buy her beer. “The Naughty Song,” by Cory Lee plays on as Shane looks on, discouraged by the flirtatious attitude of her girlfriend. Meanwhile, Moira and Jenny dance together and kiss, with Moira, “packing,” (artificial manhood) as Alice points out to Uta and Helena as they all arrive. Alice and Uta go to the floor to dance together while Helena has a drink at the bar. Uta begins to kiss at Alice’s neck as they dance and it’s revealed that Uta doesn’t just have normal teeth like the rest of humanity, but vampiric fangs as well. Uta momentarily rakes her fangs against Alice’s neck, which turns Alice on, but also freaks her out for a second. Alice asks for a pardon and will be right back, making her way over to Helena at the bar. Helena inspects Uta’s handiwork and classifies it as a, “hicky.” Uta walks over to Alice and Helena to see what’s going on, prompting Helena to leave politely, but not before letting Alice know that vampires can’t be seen in mirrors. Alice tries the mirror trick with Uta, but at a time when Alice’s back is turned to Uta. Uta drops a ring and picks it up as Alice happens to check the mirror to see if Uta’s there. Alice sees no one, which makes her think that Uta really is a vampire. Alice turns around as Uta stands again, timed perfectly with a smile.

#374 – Bologna Jingle (Lawfully)

It’s not exactly a pleasant thought for Alice, picturing her best friend, Shane making the moves on her mom, Lenore. Having been informed by her mom of this, Alice decides to ask Shane about it at the Planet. Shane talks about how Lenore was into her and the one making the moves, even going so far as to say that she’s, “kinda hot.” This prompts Alice to try to ignore these details by covering her ears and singing the Oscar Meyer bologna jingle out loud in a rather humorous moment.

#373 – Dinner With Positive (Lies, Lies, Lies)

It’s been a long, rough day at work for Bette. And now she’s coming home to find a candle lit dinner waiting for her from Tina with a third seat at the table. This begins to send Bette over the top, as her blood is still boiling over her work circumstances, but Tina says nothing. Bette figures that someone’s been invited over which is the last thing she needs right now, especially with no notice from Tina, but upon getting to the table, Bette discovers that the third area at the table is occupied by a home pregnancy test with the positive idenfifier. Tina appears to be pregnant and suddenly all of the troubles in Bette’s life go away as she smiles and kisses her partner, letting her know she loves her. This is one of the more seminal Bette/Tina moments.

#372 – Henry Miller Light (Luminous)

It’s possible that Jenny just didn’t care for Hunter’s short story. In Charlotte Birch’s class, Hunter who may or may not be the teacher’s pet, has his story dissected by Jenny which provides for entertainment value to the rest of the class. The chief concern is that women need men to have incredible, amazing sex. Hunter’s story doesn’t seem to have any women that can be seen in an honorable light, according to Jenny as the debate rages on with Jenny laughingly going into expletives. On the notion of the story envoking the style of Henry Miller, Jenny simply refers to it as, “Henry Miller Light.” Charlotte is not amused.

#371 – Marina Has A Husband (Lap Dance)

Character Assassination can be fun, but also provide a curveball for the viewer. Take the plight of Marina Ferrer, a character that leaves between Seasons 1 and 2. Her departure is explained by that of a suicide attempt (in which no two versions are the same) in the previous episode, Life Loss Leaving. Now comes the moment where the man understood to be Marina’s father, Manfredi Ferrer arrives to look over the papers for the sale of the Planet. No longer having to contend with Francesca Wolff’s financial backing and with Marina safe and sound at home back in Italy, Manfredi is happy to get rid of the Planet on the family’s behalf to Kit. His attitude is not very nice, to say the least, looking down on California wine and American society in general and its rush to be judgmental. Manfredi specifically targets Bette on that end and given Bette’s own situation with Tina and Candace, Kit can’t help, but give, “an Amen to that.” Everything looks to be in order for the sale, but there’s just one more thing to go over and that’s how Marina is doing. Kit and Bette ask about how Manfredi’s daughter is doing. It turns out that Marina is not Manfredi’s daughter, but his wife. Years later, this revelation with no explanation since still makes viewers shake their heads in bewilderment.
