Idol Week Tuesday: EXCLUSIVE Behind-The-Scenes Canadian Idol Backstage Pass – Introduction

Features, Shows

There are exclusives and then there are EXCLUSIVES. This is definitely in the latter category. On Sunday, I was given an exclusive behind-the-scenes backstage pass to to the Canadian Idol rehearsal before Monday’s live show. What does that mean? It means you also get an exclusive backstage pass to join me as we look at the process behind the Canadian Idol show that we see every week.

Not only was I permitted to check out which songs the Idols had chosen to sing before the live show on Monday, but I interviewed them all about what their Idol experience has been like thus far.

Over the next week, you will get to see Matt Rapley, Brian Melo, Jaydee Bixby, Tara Oram, Dwight d’Eon and Carly Rae Jepsen like you have never seen them before. They talk openly about how much time they get to practice each song and how long they work with the incredible guest talent each week. They also discuss whether or not they think they will win the competition and their answers are pretty surprising (especially Carly Rae’s!) Other topics include whether the last two remaining girls feel they are at an advantage or a disadvantage and how much of a factor regional voting plays in the competition. Plus I talk to Carly Rae and Dwight about the prediction that I made right after the auditions… that they will make the Final 2. With just four competitors in their way, I think it is fair to say that I have solidified my reputation as the world’s foremost reality television expert and the only authority on everything Idol. You will have to wait and see if Carly Rae and Dwight agree.

And that’s not all.

You will also get to meet the three mystery Idols. People whose influence on the show cannot be understated and who are just as important to the program’s national success. Who are they? You will have to wait and see.

And what would your exclusive behind-the-scenes look be without actually getting to see what I saw. Thanks to Inside Pulse photographer Colin Yardley, you will get to experience everything that we did right from the comfort of your computer. We have pictures of the Idols practicing on stage, never-before-seen profile shots and images of their interviews with me.

In this article, you will get the proverbial lay of the land. What do the judges dressing room doors look like? What do the Idols look like before their make-up is applied? Just check out what we got! To view each photo in a larger size, just click on it.

As for my initial thoughts, I definitely have to say that going to a rehearsal was the best Idol experience I have ever had. I had to wait until the live show aired to talk about Dwight’s plan to play a Santana guitar solo during his performance, and how much the back-up singers LOVED Brian’s Melo’s take on Live. It was hard not to write about Tara taking over the stage with her “Walking On Sunshine” cover. And of course, you all know that I cannot rave about Carly Rae enough.

I think that the aspect of the rehearsal that I found the most interesting, is how much advice the Idols are given from so many talented people backstage. It’s pretty awesome. I also finally got a real sense of how much work goes into the production. The amount of work that these guys have to do every week makes my job seem easy. They are literally practicing from the moment the results show ends to the time the next performance show begins.

As for how Canadian Idol week will work, I will break it down for you.

Tomorrow, Reality Dish will feature my interview with whoever is eliminated on the show tonight.

During the rest of the week, you can look for my interviews with the four Idols in a random order.

On Monday, you will find out who the three mystery idols are and the feature will wrap up on Tuesday with my last Idol interview.

Enjoy!
