If you’re able to direct one action flick (Live Free Or Die Hard), then you are in line to direct another one.

Len Wiseman is all set now to direct the remake of John Carpenter’s Escape From New York from New Line. Ken Nolan (Black Hawk Down) is writing the script for the film which will be produced by Neal Moritz and Gerard Butler. Butler (300) is also set to star in the lead role of Snake Plissken. Carpenter will executive produce.

The film takes place in the future (the original came out in 1981 and took place in 1998) when the President’s plane crashes down into the walled in island of Manhattan. Manhattan has now become a huge federal prison where the most violent criminals are held. Prisoner Snake Plisskin is offered his freedom if he will go to Manhattan and rescue the President. He must hurry though as he has less then a day to finish the mission or two capsules inside him will explode killing him instantly.

No other information is known at this time, but New Line is rumored at trying for a release in 2009.
