Transformers: The Cybertronian Enquirer

News

Opening Salvo

Another week is here and it’s time for some more Transformer goodness. News, a review and some other fine things for you to peruse; it’s time to Transform!

Toys: What I got, what they got, and some news too

Well sitting in my pile of loot at BBTS are 6” Titanium WW Fallen, WW Megatron, and Optimal Optimus. BBTS was having a clearance on Fallen and I got the other two because the shelves at my local Target and TRU are barren. As soon as I get a few more things I’m going to have it all ship out.

First bit of news concerns a few photos that were making the ways around the web last week. Imagine the excitement when images of movie Bonecrusher surfaced done in traditional G1 Constructicon colors. Well these photos were found to be completely bogus when it was revealed that they were nothing more than photos taken from Siebertron.com and edited in Photoshop. Ryan, from Siebertron, had a nice laugh over the whole thing but this goes back to the old adage; if it looks to good to be true it probably is.

It appears that Hasbro Asia will be releasing exclusive metallic repaints of Voyager Ratchet and Megatron. The figures will also be packaged in robot mode. That small cry you just heard was Mike’s wallet.

For those of you still waiting on the release of the score from the Transformers movie it appears now that it will be released exclusively online. Since the majority of people asking for this release have digital players I don’t foresee any problems.

Hard to imagine but we’re only just a little over two months away from the rumored release of the Transformers Movie DVD so the net is buzzing with rumors about the extras. Well one extra that can be confirmed is an animated version of IDWs’ prequel comic. Peter Cullen will once again be doing the voice of Optimus while it hasn’t been announced who from the movie will be reprising their roles.

In box images of Binal Tech clear Mirage and MP Skywarp have appeared online. Usually that means that they’re not that far from hitting the shelves. After the crap I went through with MP Starscream I hope that Skywarp is all that he is promised to be.

The G1 Optimus Prime ornament is now available from American greetings. The link to purchase can be found; well I was going to give you guys a link but when I went to check it out he was already sold out. Ah well, time to hit Ebay.

How do you feel about non-American markets getting exclusive movie repaints that North American fans have been asking for?

Sixty-Second Review

Transformers Titanium
Scourge
MSRP: $19.99
OUT NOW; somewhere

OK, I’m fairly certain I haven’t done this guy yet but if I have let me know. One of the highlights of the Titanium line was the inclusion of choice characters from the Transformer universe redone with improved articulation and a more anime look. At least that was the idea. While it succeeded with some others it failed miserably. Scourge though falls somewhere in the middle.

I never had a Scourge back in the day so when I heard he was going to be released in the 6” line I jumped at the chance to get him. Once freed from his plastic prison the first thing you should notice is the improved articulation from his G1 counterpart; this might come as a surprise since he has two huge wings on his back but since those now feature a double joint they won’t hinder his movement. The only thing I don’t like are his hands being molded into fists and thus the lack of a hand held weapon. Also due to his transformation scheme his head doesn’t have side-to-side movement.

Transformation is simple since Scourge is basically a shell former. One improvement over his G1 counterpart is that his face is now hidden in vehicle mode. I’ve never been sure exactly what his vehicle mode is supposed to be but it’s always looked like a futuristic boat. Seeing as how he’s becoming hard to get at retail the question becomes is he worth the mark up that comes with the secondary market; that depends if you’re a fan of the character or of G1 in general. If you dreamed of a true anime accurate figure then jump on this guy, if not put your money towards G1 Ultra Magnus or RID Optimus Prime. On Elohim’s Energon ranking scale I give Titanium G1 Scourge an eight out of ten cubes. The lack of hands or a weapon keeps him away from a ten.

Parting Shots

Well that’s it for this week. Tune in next time for, well not sure yet but tune in and it wil be good; because you’ll be there.
