Time for the results.
I didn’t think that the earlier 6:30 p.m. showtime for Tuesday’s episode of Canadian Idol was going to be a problem until I left my house. I also didn’t know how much of a problem it was going to be that I didn’t take my jacket before I left. I just assumed that it was August, and so things would be alright.
I was wrong.
I ran down Front Street while being pelted with rain and I arrived in what was probably my most disheveled state of all time.
That’s okay though, because I knew that Kelly Clarkson would be performing later.
The warm-up started at 6:20. Ben Mulroney said that Monday’s show was one of the best they have ever done, and I had to agree. It was amazing.
With 45 seconds to go before the show went live, the Top 5 came out and assumed their positions on stage for the group number. Exactly as I predicted, Carly was in the middle with two guys to her left and two guys to her right. Tara’s dismissal was already paying off for her, as she was the clear focal point of the group song which was “If I Could (Change The World)” by Eric Clapton. Matt started the song and there was a huge cheer for Brian when he started singing. There was also a sizeable ovation for Jaydee.
When the Idols sat on the stools in front of them during the song, Carly looked very short compared to the rest.
The song ended and Ben came back out. He said that approximately 4 million votes were cast on Monday night and then went on to introduce the judges, followed by a recap package featuring the performances from the day before. While the recap package was playing, the stage was being changed (presumably for Kelly Clarkson). Ben threw to commercial by saying that Kelly Clarkson would “rattle the walls of the John Bassett Theatre right after this.”

The show resumes with Kelly singing “Never Again.” I didn’t think she sounded that great. Almost as if she was sick. I also wasn’t the biggest fan of her hair.
Ben then came out and presented her with a platinum album to represent the sales of her “My December” disc.
Clarkson then performed an acoustic version of “Because Of You.” It sounded a lot better than her first tune, but that’s probably because she didn’t have to stretch her vocal chords as much. Don’t get me wrong. I think Clarkson is awesome. I just think she had an off-night, especially when you compare her to the brilliance of Rihanna and Enrique Iglesias before her.
Commercial. Time for my final prediction. I thought that it would be Dwight and Matt, with Rapley finally leaving.
During the break, the Top 5 sat on stools and alternated front and back seating positions.

Ben started to read the results.

Exactly as expected and my pre-show prognostication was dead-on. The host of the show then asked the judges for their thoughts.
Zack said that he put his faith in the people and that “Canada picks the Idol.” Jake said that Dwight had problems with the words off the top of his song on Monday and that Matt suffered because he went first and had to warm-up the crowd. Sass said that it wasn’t about who went home as much as it was about what they did when they got there. Farley delivered the generic “you have to step up” for next week.

MATT RAPLEY IS ELIMINATED
He put on a great performance on Monday, but it was definitely his time.
