News

According to PWInsider, here is the latest WWE pay-per-view schedule for 2008:

Royal Rumble
1/27/08
New York, NY
Madison Square Garden

No Way Out
2/17/08
TBD

Wrestlemania 24
3/30/08
Orlando, FL
Citrus Bowl

Backlash
4/27/08

5/18/08
TBD

One Night Stand
6/1/08

Vengeance
6/29/08

Great American Bash
7/20/08

As you can see, New Year’s Revolution has been taken off of the schedule, joining December to Dismember on the scrap heap, with WWE apparently slimming down to 14 PPVs per year. Here are the rest of this year’s scheduled PPVs that we previously reported:

Unforgiven
9/16/07
Memphis, TN
FedEx Forum

No Mercy
10/07/07
Chicago, IL
Allstate Arena

Cyber Sunday
10/28/07
Washington, DC
Verizon Center

Survivor Series
11/18/07
Miami, FL
American Airlines Arena

Armageddon
12/16/07
TBD

ANALYSIS: Has WWE learned from past year’s mistakes? Well, cutting the # of PPVs to 14 is a start (although I’d argue that 12 would make more sense). Here’s a look at how this new PPV schedule is spaced out:

3 weeks – From Summerslam until Unforgiven
3 weeks – Until No Mercy
3 weeks – Until Cyber Sunday
3 weeks – Until Survivor Series
4 weeks – Until Armageddon
6 weeks – Until Royal Rumble
3 weeks – Until No Way Out
6 weeks – Until WrestleMania 24
4 weeks – Until Backlash
3 weeks – Until Judgment Day
2 weeks – Until One Night Stand
4 weeks – Until Vengeance
3 weeks – Until Great American Bash

Instead of the five PPVs originally scheduled in the 10 weeks from Survivor Series through the Royal Rumble, WWE’s knocked that number down to three, and only one pair of PPVs is two weeks apart, so that’s a start. Some suggestions? Kill two of the following: No Way Out, One Night Stand, and/or Cyber Sunday. Or maybe WWE should consider swapping the Rumble and No Way Out, and putting six to eight weeks between the Rumble and Mania? OR, to make things more interesting, what about tying No Way Out to an annual Elimination Chamber match and making One Night Stand an annual UK-based PPV (that’s either free in the U.S. or not available here)? Just some thoughts…
