Make Movement: The Penis Humor is Back on RAW

Columns

How do you feel about wrestling now that Triple H is back, Rey Mysterio Jr. is back and none of the titles changed hands during SummerSlam? SummerSlam was barely passable considering the last few PPVs, but it wasn’t exciting as it should have been and RAW managed to fall flat on it’s face too with the exception of bringing John Cena’s dad in on the Orton/Cena angle. The biggest problem for me right now is the utter staleness of no belts changing hands. Not a single one. Jeff Hardy should have returned on the PPV and not during RAW. Triple H I thought had a pretty good match with Booker T and a really good return entrance during SummerSlam, and then we’re right back into the Degeneration-X humor that some people love and a lot of people hate. However, considering the McMahon/Seed of His Grapefruits angle, I don’t know how people couldn’t expect Triple H to return with penis jokes (even if it isn’t all that funny). RAW is just one giant penis joke right now – when it’s not McMahon or Triple H it’s Cena being cutesy. That may finally be put the rest for a while though, now that the Orton/Cena/Cena’s Dad angle is getting cranked up.

Even though I utterly hated the resthold match with Cena and Orton at Summerslam, I’m interested in this lasting one more month now that Orton gets to truly elevate his heel status and Cena gets serious to defend his father. That could make RAW really good next week, and RAW really needs a pickmeup because there’s almost nothing to remember from yesterday’s show. I would be surprised if we don’t see one of two combinations for next week’s main event: Cena/Triple H v. Orton and Booker or Cena/Triple H v. Kennedy/Orton.

Cryme Time is getting a big push and are really over, and are the only real momentum in the tag team division right now. Shelton Benjamin’s now blonde reminding me of Wesley Snipes in Demolition Man or Koko B. Ware (which was also observed in James Hatton’s “Monday Night Rabble”). It would be funny to bring Koko back to rib Shelton, followed by the “Damn!” by Ron Simmons.

Beth Phoenix is getting a push and sometimes she looks like a really buff blonde Lita. She’s really talented but fans have this assassin diva like gimmick already with Victoria who does it better than anyone. Also stopping the match against Maria before it was over, was stupid. I’m disappointed that WWE is so committed to pushing Candice Michelle that Mickie James can’t get a good push despite being over. Even Jillian Hall has great heel heat in the division and they couldn’t find a way to use her for RAW.

Umaga is back to being a heel so he can feud with Jeff Hardy, and I don’t really understand the transition since he was a face for a brief moment. I think it screws with storyline consistency even though they were feuding before Hardy was missing in action. Both can perform however so at least for a two-hour show we should get one good match. And though I hate to say it, because I enjoy Kennedy’s work, he is not stepping up his game to get the push he’s teasing on getting. It’s one thing to be over on the mic, but to be both over in the ring and on the mic, is what a main event superstar should be about.
