A TF review written exclusively for Inside Pulse by Rikkomba

There I go, another micron is on its way to be reviewed without any noticeable sign of mercy! Yeah.
This summer’s third exclusive micron, which came out in Japan some time after our lovely Noise Effect and Torque Gain, was available since the end of July. It was a giveaway for customers who had purchased a TF Movie toy of 3000 JPY or more, exclusively for Bic Camera stores(once again, thanks to TFormers.com).
It’s for Me a great honour to introduce you to one of the best minicons ever created: Fem’Bots and Gentle’Cons, enter… Wedgeshape!

-APPLAUSE-

I was going to review Wedgeshape alone, but then I thought that, being it a repaint of Classic Dreadwing, it would’ve been nicer to review the rest of its team as well.

And where is the rest of its team? Well, as most know, this summer also blessed us (or cursed… I’ll pick the latter) with Micron Booster version 4. Instead of the usual 11 microns coming with a single chase figure, this time we got a total of 9 regular microns and 2 chase figures. Of course I had to get all 11 figures, I didn’t want to let down my fellow Charles ^_^’.
Among the 9 regular figures of MBv4 we can find the 2 remaining members of the repainted Predacon Team: Gredator and Apexis, Overbite’s and Snarl’s repaints, respectively.

A minicon which also gets to be a cool TF. Can you believe it?

Gold, red and black. Which other TFs have this color scheme? G1 Black Scorponok of course, one of the most sought after TFs. And Cybertron Dark Scorponok, too. They are both cool, and they both use black as the primary color. Classic Dreadwing was already a superb minicon, with a great beast mode, an original transformation and a very nice color scheme.

Wedgeshape further improves the latter aspect, reminding me a lot of Energon Starscream, the Armada repaint that came in a 2-pack with Red “Prowl” Alert. I can already see it constantly powerlinked to E-Screamer.

A picture is worth thousands and thousands and thousands of digits, methinks.

Differently from most microns I recently got, Wedgeshape doesn’t seem to be too fragile. In robot mode there is some good articulation, though I don’t think it matters so much for a minicon. The black details on the head, groin and legs nicely contrast with the orange wings/cape: basically, I like its appearance a lot and I plan on making a sexy calendar out of it. ****preorders are open, get yours before it’s sold out!****

MEOW?! I didn’t remember asking Santa for a Garfield minicon…

Some words for Apexis and Gredator, too: they seem to complement Wedgeshape very well, and when you have the two teams facing each other you can instantly tell both their origins and the substances Takara designers have been using. While Overbite is a bad mold with an okay color scheme, Gredator enhances this aspect, coming with such a bright yellow color that in comparison Armada Hotshot now looks like Nemesis Hotshot.

Apexis, on the other hand, makes Snarl’s mold look much better, especially with those brand new blue eyes… SOOOOOOO LOVELY! Geez, some more pink and we would have instead an Arcee minicon!

Please notice that I stopped laughing at Japanese microns’ names.
I just started finding them more tragic than funny.
Apexis. Yeah.

“Mommy, buy me Apexis!”
“Jimmy, what the heck did you smoke this morning? Winners don’t use drugs. Have a Coke instead”.

I want a Koala minicon. With Eucalyptus!

Considering that 2 members out of 3 come from the same product, maybe it would be better to get a complete MBv4 first, then to find a Wedgeshape somewhere.

To pay this micron I gave up most of my budget for Movie Leader Megatron… and I don’t regret it, really. Not only because I like this micron (and its 2 buddies, too!) a lot, but mainly ‘cuz Movie Leader Megatron sucks so badly than to get a worse 40$ TF you have to go back to Energon Optimus Prime. Ouch, that hurt somebody’s self-esteem, I guess.

A great TF isn’t necessarily big and loaded with gimmicks, and Wedgeshape, even beyond its attractive status as an exclusive micron, manages to be a great Transformer on its own.
On Elohim’s Energon scale, I give Wedgeshape 10 out of 10 cubes.

Take care,

Rikkomba
