Low Blows: Vargas/Mayorga Rescheduled, Dancing With the Stars, and September Fight Schedule

Columns, News

– The September 9th PPV showdown between Fernando Vargas and Ricardo Mayorga has been postponed. Vargas was diagnosed with anemia, a blood deficiency derived from a lack of iron. Doctors ordered the postponement of the fight, which is now scheduled for November 23rd according to FightNews.com. The fight will still be on PPV and will still emanate from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA.

– Floyd Mayweather Jr will be a contestant on Dancing With the Stars. The pound-for-pound champion will show off his footwork starting September 24th on ABC. Mayweather faces undefeated Ricky Hatton on December 8th.

– Dan Rafael’s Notebook reports that Don King is pushing for a January 19th PPV date with HBO for the Roy Jones Jr-Felix Trinidad fight. The fight will surely end up on pay-per-view somewhere and HBO is the benchmark in that aspect of boxing.

– The cancellation of Vargas/Mayorga leaves Kermit Cintron without a fall fight, as he was slated to be on the undercard. Showtime wants to put Cintron in their December 1st main event, hopefully against Antonio Margarito. If not, Showtime hopes to book Joshua Clottey against Cintron in the main event.
