In a media conference call for UFC 75, UFC president Dana White stated that Renato “Babalu” Sobral has been cut from his contract for his well publicised conduct in his UFC 74 match against David Heath. White noted that had Babalu been holding onto a leg or an arm, the results could’ve been much worse. My personal thought is that Heath probably didn’t think so at the time.
Now, I know that some people have been comparing this incident to B.J. Penn holding his choke a little too long on Jens Pulver in their recent fight, remember that Babalu was also recently arrested for battery and trespassing at an Indian casino, which gave us this gem of a picture:
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Babalu show up at a Cage Rage event or something, but suffice it to say, he’s probably done with the UFC, although like pro wrestling, you can never say never, and Dana even said as much. I could see him bringing Sobral in for Chuck Liddell to destroy again.
White also noted that Sobral knows he’s been cut and that he’s not happy about it, and that he was always planning to cut Babalu from the organization.
