WWE Suspends 10 Superstars, Will Start Naming Names

News, Press Releases

The following was just posted on WWE’s corporate Web site and issued over Business Wire at 3:26pm ET:

WWE® Statement On Performer Suspensions

STAMFORD, Conn., August 30, 2007 – Based on independent information received from investigators from the Albany County, NY D.A.’s office, WWE has today, under the penalty provisions of its wellness policy, issued suspension notices to 10 of its performers for violations. It has been WWE’s practice not to release the names of those who have been suspended, but notice has been sent to all WWE performers that names of anyone who is suspended under the Wellness Policy as of November 1 will be made public.

We have attempted to contact WWE for clarification on the specific violations (assuming that since the Albany D.A. has been investigating an Internet pharmacy, and getting prescriptions over the ‘Net is banned by the Wellness Program, this is all somehow related) but have yet to hear back.

Also today, New York Daily News writer Michael O’Keefe reported that Congress will be having a hearing next month over WWE’s Wellness Policy.
