Maybe the second time will be the charm for a film based on the popular video game.

Hyde Park Entertainment and Capcom are working together to try and bring Street Fighter to life again in a live-action film and now they have a director. Action specialist Andrzej Bartkowiak (Romeo Must Die, Exit Wounds) has worked on numerous action films besides just directing them including Lethal Weapon 4 and Speed.

Production is set to begin early next year and will be distributed by Fox. The film will focus on femal fighter Chun Li and her journey for justice. The film first debuted in 1987 and has spawned numerous sequels.

Justin Marks has written the script and is working out some last minute kinks. Marks other works in progress include Voltron, Super Max, and He-Man. Ashok Amritaj and Patrick Aiello of Hyde Park will produce while members of Capcom will executive produce.

Street Fighter was made into a live-action film once already back in 1995 and starred Jean-Claude Van Damme and the late Raul Julia. The film could be considered a huge bomb as it earned only $33 million at the box office.
