Q-TIP HITS THE ROAD WITH COMMON ON 2K SPORTS BOUNCE TOUR
New album, The Renaissance, scheduled for early 2008 release
Q-TIP will hit the road this fall alongside COMMON for the 2K Sports Bounce Tour, including stops in Philadelphia, Atlanta, New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles (see complete schedule below). The popular video game series NBA 2K8 features Q-Tip as a playable character. He can also be heard on the soundtrack alongside TALIB KWELI on the J DILLA track “Lightworks”. The game hits shelves Oct. 2.
While on the road, the multi-platinum, Grammy Award-winning artist will offer up new material from his highly-anticipated release The Renaissance—due early 2008 via Universal Motown. Featuring a unique mix of samples and a live band, the album is the latest chapter in one of the most storied careers in urban music. The first single, “WorkItOut”, is currently available for download on iTunes.
VH1 will pay tribute to A TRIBE CALLED QUEST at the fourth annual VH1 Hip Hop Honors, premiering Monday, Oct. 8 at 10PM Eastern/Pacific. Inspiring generations of hip-hop artists, Q-Tip and fellow Tribe members PHIFE DAWG and ALI SHAHEED MUHAMMAD played a key role in turning the genre into the mainstream phenomenon it is today. WAXPLOITATION CELEBRATES TENTH ANNIVERSARY
New charity auctions, album planned for later this year
Established in Los Angeles by Jeff Antebi in 1997, Waxploitation has been pioneering new models in the music business and making a difference through active social causes for a decade. The company was founded as a record label for innovative artists, and broadened to include Artist Management and Music Publishing in 2000.
A decade into its history, Antebi reflects that “especially with the way the music world is today, chaotic and in somewhat of a freefall, Waxploitation has been steadily moving upwards over time by focusing on quality artists with a strong vision, attempting to do things against the grain. We’ve stayed true to important music and let long tail economics take care of the rest.â€
Waxploitation holds several charity auctions each year to benefit prominent non-profits, including Oxfam, Save Darfur, the UN Refugee Agency and Human Rights Watch, and has included items donated by Angelina Jolie, RADIOHEAD, Tony Hawk, KANYE WEST, NINE INCH NAILS, OUTKAST, Julius ‘Dr. J’ Irving and more. “Waxploitation has been a great supporter of Human Rights Watch in our efforts to end ethnic cleansing in Darfur,†says Human Rights Watch’s Elizabeth Seuling. “Jeff manages to find creative ways to introduce people to the work we do.”
In mid-October, Waxploitation will launch a new charity auction through eBay’s non-profit MissionFish partner. Waxploitation is making available a number of prized signed guitars from COMMON, THE FLAMING LIPS, NICKELBACK, and DEFTONES, as well as rare items from COLDPLAY, BJÖRK, TV ON THE RADIO, to name a few.
In mid-November, Waxploitation is releasing an ambitious charity album called Causes 1 which includes exclusive and rare songs from THE BLACK KEYS, BLOC PARTY, BRIGHT EYES, CORNELIUS, DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE, THE (INTERNATIONAL) NOISE CONSPIRACY, THE SHINS, SPOON, THIEVERY CORPORATION and TRAVIS, among many others, with 100% of the proceeds going to Human Rights Watch and Doctors Without Borders.
Here’s a free download from Samantha James’ debut album, Rise—in stores and online Tuesday, Sept. 25.
