Make Movement: The Champ Is Hurt

Columns

There has been a general lack of passion in the WWE lately with storylines that less than challenge the imagination of their viewers. This shows as the ratings glide down, there was practically a universal collective thought that fans aren’t into ECW and now the writers are forced to get their heads out of their ass because the Champ is hurt.

The biggest news of the day is John Cena was hurt and finished the match hurt against Mr. Kennedy last night on RAW. I, never being a fan of John Cena the character, do respect John Cena, the worker. John has always been a reliable employee with a hard work ethic, and no matter what I think of his in-ring ability, he has my respect for having a reputation for always being approachable and down to earth. With that being said, the championship landscape changes with a champion to be determined this Sunday at No Mercy and it took a bad injury for us to get to this point where WWE’s hands were forced. It is a big loss for the WWE in the sense they have always put so much weight on Cena’s shoulders to be the top babyface and World Champion, and now others must step up their game.

Will the WWE go with a Orton/Triple H feud earlier than they had hoped? It may not be a bad idea as time is wasted with McMahon versus Triple H with really nothing up for stakes other than ego in their storyline. However, why not someone fresh like Jeff Hardy, who has that monster face pop everytime he performs, no matter where you put him on the card? If you’re looking for a heel, the obvious candidates are Umaga, Randy Orton, and Mr. Kennedy. What would be nice is a real adrenaline rush is a surprise match involving Jericho where he wins the title and quickly. The fans haven’t seen him in so long, and though it defies traditional booking standards, it would bring fans back who have tuned out and add the ‘anything can happen’ that doesn’t happen anymore.

It’s time to elevate someone we haven’t seen in a while or give someone deserving a unforgettable push. Anything to freshen up the product and bring someone new into the main event picture.
