Local media in Pittsburgh have been all over the Kurt Angle/DUI arrest story, as has TMZ.com. For the local reports, click here, here and here.

Here is a statement from Angle’s legal representation, as published by TMZ.com:

Kurt Angle maintains his innocence relative to the charges brought by the police in this matter. The improper arrest occurred in the middle of the afternoon after Mr. Angle showed no signs of intoxication. The police have no blood alcohol content and not firsthand knowledge of his operation of his vehicle. We believe the motivation for this arrest is based upon Kurt Angle’s celebrity status and we are confident that we will prevail when the truth becomes evident.

Local media has reported that a white Cadillac Escalade nearly struck a woman’s car around 1pm coming out of a restaurant parking lot, and then allegedly almost hit a traffic sign and crossed the yellow median. The woman told local media that she had to stop short in order to avoid getting into an accident, and that she called authorities with the license plate number, which was tracked to Kurt Angle’s home. The car and his physical description matched the police reports, and when police arrived, the TNA Champion reportedly had liquor on his breath and anti-inflammatory pills in his mouth, failed several field sobriety tests and was arrested. He wouldn’t take blood tests at a local hospital, so his driver’s license will be automatically suspended for a year.

Angle was scheduled to appear on the Between the Ropes radio show last night, but that was cancelled. On yesterday’s TNA conference call, where TNA President Dixie Carter hyped up tonight’s two-hour iMPACT! debut, Kurt’s appearance on Between the Ropes was mentioned, so there seems to be a disconnect there. That said, he is scheduled to be on Bubba the Love Sponge show on October 17 along with his wife Karen Angle at 5:30pm ET, so stay tuned…
