Fantastic Four #450

Writer: Dwayne McDuffie

The Fantastic Four are a team of Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm. With Reed and Sue off to work on their marriage, the Black Panther and his wife, Storm, have taken their place on the team. When Reed discovers something threatening the universe the six heroes go off to save space time.

Do you miss high speed adventures where the heroes go fight for high stakes, get exactly what they need to save the universe, and make it home in time for a good meal? If you do, then this is the comic for you, since that’s exactly how this issue goes. With numerous guest appearances, high stakes, and tons happening, this issue is pure adrenaline. The art is mostly attractive and conveys the action well throughout the issue. Unfortunately, the facial expressions are often a bit strange and some characters seem posed, but considering the throwback style that’s being worked, it’s nothing egregious.

There isn’t much (or anything) here besides a good, fun action comic, so if you want complexity of plot, theme, or social commentary, look elsewhere. This is light fun. The Fantastic Four on a space faring, high speed sci-fi adventure sounds like fun and it is fun. It’s good to know comics like this can still be made from time to time. A lack of depth hurts the score, but this is still a solid, fast read.
