Ask and you shall receive. Since Laura Vandervoort has been cast as Kara, I’ve been saying in my columns that I want her and the always-beautiful Kristin Kreuk to share a scene together. Well, three episodes into the season, and my wish has been granted. Not only has it been granted .but one of the actresses was even in a bikini! This almost (ALMOST) makes up for the lack of episodic commentaries on the season six DVD set. Nevertheless, I’m grateful, and thank you. Lets just hope it’s not the only time it happens this season.
Might as well use that hormone driven comment to segue to my next point. I know it’s immature, but I still get a kick out of the bit that Kryptonians prematurely lose control of their heat vision when they get turned on. We’ve seen this happen a few times already, but I still find it funny. I do find it odd, though, that out of all the people Kara could be drawn to, it’s to Jimmy. Don’t get me wrong, he’s not a bad looking guy, but he’s purposely portrayed as being dorky and awkward. I’d also hate to see Chloe get spurned yet again, especially after years of unrequited love towards Clark.
Now that Lana is officially alive again, I’m curious to see what her living situation becomes. Does she shack up with Clark and Kara at Kent Farm? Does she get her own apartment? Does she move in with Chloe and Lois in that little Talon apartment?
One thing I was disappointed about, however, was how Clark brought up the fact that he worried that Lana wouldn’t understand knowing his secret. Sure, that was his concern early on, but for the past few years, it seemed to me that he didn’t tell her his secret because he wanted to protect her (especially after what happened in the 100th episode). That was Clark’s main reason for not telling Lana, making this yet another example of how the show fails to recognize how it’s evolved.
Last week I made the observation that Chloe’s stalemate as a reporter is a direct result of her knowing, and having to protect, Clark’s secret. That was further shown in this episode, as you could almost see her trying to sweep the story under the rug when Jimmy brought her the photo of the frozen pageant participant. I’m enjoying this competitive story arc, where the new editor is constantly goading Chloe, asking her if Lois “will beat her out of the basement.” By the way, why exactly does the editor spend so much time in the basement?
I’m not sure what to make of this “new,” saved Lex. He’s obviously seen the err of his ways in regards to Lana, and his fascination of Kara seems to stem from his desire to thank her for rescuing him. Naturally, Lex is curious to a fault, which means even if his yearning to thank Kara is genuine, deep down he really just wants to know the secret of her abilities and, by extension, the secret that is Clark Kent. Along with that, how long will this saintly Lex last when the reality of Lana’s relationship with Clark (as well as the possibility of her shacking up with him) truly hits him?
I also enjoyed Clark’s attempt to train Kara to control her abilities. First off, it showed how much Clark has grown in his understanding of his powers, and second it was a nice homage to the way his parents (particularly Jonathan) helped him in the past. I also got a kick out of Kara’s response, telling him that he can talk to her about understanding her abilities when he learns how to fly.
Anyway, that’s all I’ve got for this week. Remember, folks, I have a new e-mail address at mbasilo_insidepulse@hotmail.com. Don’t hesitate to send me a line, I’d love to discuss this show (and any other).
