SUB-MARINER #5 (of 6)

Writer: Matt Cherniss & Peter Johnson

Artist: Phil Briones

Inker: Scott Hanna

Company: Marvel

Over the years, Namor has always talked a big game. He goes on and on about how the other heroes are idiots for letting certain people live when the clearly deserve to die. Of course, Namor never really kills anyone himself; until now.

Showing the ruthlessness and brutality that he has said for years that he possesses, Namor has no trouble this issue in dispatching those who pose a threat to his throne, and Atlantis itself. In fact, it is fair after this issue to start calling ol’ Subby “Namor the Impaler.” The story as it was presented in issue #1 is nearly complete, as Namor has found the 13th cell responsible for the destruction of Bentonville, Kansas, and brought them to Atlantean justice. All that remains is for Namor, or someone with DNA similar to his own, to die chained to the Atlantean throne, while all of Atlantis itself is destroyed.

Iron Man, commanding the SHIELD forces on Atlantis’ doorstep, realizes that Namor is good to his word, but others in the administration are not so convinced. The order is given, and the next and last issue looks to be SHIELD vs. Atlantis.

This issue lacks the star-power the previous 3 issues had, what with their guest stars, but is fulfilling without them, as anyone who has thought to themselves before that Namor was all talk will be glad to see that he backs up his strong words with brutal action. There shall not be many more calls for a coup against Prince Namor after the events of today, and if he can slap down Iron Man (again), he will really show that he is not the guy with whom to mess.
