The Film:

In recent years a new TV genre has risen. The “act like a total moron and do stupid things because they’re considered extreme to gain the admiration of stupid teenagers worldwide” genre. Jackass was one of the pioneers of this genre, but just like any other case, someone comes along to prove he can out-idiot the original idiots. Introducing the Dirty Sanchez gang.

Dirty Sanchez was first introduced on MTV Europe. The European outlet of the MTV universe is less strict and more lenient than its American big brother. So when it came to creating its own stupid stunts show, it went farther than Jackass, meaning more disgusting and more disturbing. And it turns out that some of the stunts couldn’t air on TV, so a movie was made (And of course, money played a part there also).

This movie actually has a story to it, even if it’s a flimsy one. The gang is ordered by Satan to commit the seven deadly sins in different locations around the world. Failing to do so will send them to hell for all eternity. So they set out on a world tour to accomplish this mission. And it’s all downhill from that point.

I won’t detail all the stunts in the movie, because I don’t want to relive it all. Among those performed you can see a guy, with a cold, that gets his nostrils superglued and then separated in a rather painful way. A liposuction is performed without any anesthesia or sedatives. They eat monopoly money until they throw up and then eat the same notes again. The “highlight” is a stunt duel with a Japanese stunt group where some things that I never even imagined take place, including some acts that involve several areas of the human body that shouldn’t be involved in any stunts whatsoever.

If it’s not clear yet. I hate Dirty Sanchez. I didn’t follow the show closely when it first aired on MTV Europe, but prior to reviewing this movie I checked out some episodes. I thought they were bad, and then the DVD arrived and showed I don’t know what bad really is. On the other hand, this genre has a huge market all over the world, so perhaps the problem is with me, perhaps I’m too old or too rigid to enjoy this kind of “entertainment”. But then again, what kind of person enjoys seeing someone getting his face smeared with a stick that just came out of another man’s butt?

The DVD:

The best feature of the DVD set is that it contains a barf bag. It’s folded within the case.

Audio/Video:
The standard quality these days, even though the movie was shot on video and not film.

The Extras:
There’s audio commentary by the director and two members of the gang. It’s really helpful and informative, when you want to learn about the intricate parts that go into shoving a firecracker into a man’s a$$ or sniffing a mixture of wasabi and sake. There are also thirteen stunts that didn’t make the original cut of the movie, like the gang fooling around with a bag of frozen human feces or one of the guys getting a tattoo on his penis, declaring his love for another gang member. It’s pretty descent as far as being extra features, but as someone who didn’t like the movie, they didn’t do much for me.

The Inside Pulse
Hundreds of years from now, when future generations will study the decline of human civilization in the 21st century, Dirty Sanchez will play a major part in this research. The people who made this movie (and those who like it) clearly demonstrate that evolution can also go backwards.
