BIG & RICH SINGER TAKES BACK GAY MARRIAGE COMMENT… SORT OF

Insider

John Rich, of country duo Big & Rich, has tried to fan the flames (no pun intended) after angering some advocates of same-sex marriage when he compared it to incest in a recent interview with Nashville’s primary newspaper, The Tennessean. But his explanation really doesn’t seem to be very satisfying for those he offended.

“I think if you legalize [gay marriage], you’ve got to legalize some other things that are pretty unsavory. You can call me a radical, but how can you tell an aunt that she can’t marry her nephew if they are really in love and sharing the bills? How can you tell them they can’t get married, but something else that’s unnatural can happen?”

Actually, sin’t that exactly the opposite of being a radical? He later tried to perform some damage control:

“My earlier comments on same-sex marriage don’t reflect my full views on the broader issues regarding tolerance and the treatment of gays and lesbians in our society.”

So he thinks it sucks that gays and lesbians have to deal with intolerance every single day of their lives…

“I apologize for that and wish to state clearly my views. I oppose same-sex marriage because my father and minister brought me up to believe that marriage is an institution for the union of a man and a woman.”

…but it’s too damn bad if they want to get married, because his minister told him so. It’s okay for them to live among tolerant people, but if those people are tolerant of them getting married, Jesus hates those people like Jesus hates the gays. And the lesbians. And Scott Stapp. Well, at least Jesus is right on one of those.

“However, I also believe that intolerance, bigotry and hatred are wrong. People should be judged based on their merits, not on their sexual orientation.”

Unless they have merits and are gay, in that case, fuck ’em. Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t comparing homosexuality to incest a wee bit intolerant and bigoted?

“We are all children of God and should be valued and respected.”

Except the gays who want to get married. They are as awful as the people who commit incest. Then again, if one were to believe in creationism (read: Christianity), Adam and Eve had two sons, and those sons had children. Who was the mother of those children? So, if Jesus is okay with Eve having sex with her sons to produce children (even though it was waaay before he was born), then he should be okay with gay marriage, since gay marriage is the same as incest! Eureka! I’ve got it all figured out! Jesus supports gay marriage! You heard it here first.

Well, of course that shitstarter would have something to do with this, wouldn’t he? And no, I’m not talking about John Legend.
