MICE TEMPLAR #2

A concept borne of a pun, but do not let that turn you off.

Anyone who grew up in the 80’s and watched The Secret of Nimh as often as I did will appreciate Mice Templar on one level, and everyone else will find that this is just a concept that demands your attention.

The mice are in a fight for their lives against the rats, and young mouse Karic must learn the forbidden ways of the ancient Templar to survive and save his family. A classic hero cycle-type story, Karic is supposed to be pretty special, and has received instructions from the Fish Gods on how to achieve his destiny.

Mice Templar in incredibly imaginative, and the overall mood is as creepy as The Secret of Nimh was as a child. When dead rats start to come back to life, there really is a sense of fear, because one really does not know what is going to happen. This tale can possibly go in dozens of directions, and danger is at every turn. Luckily Karic has Pilot the Tall guiding and teaching him. Pilot is his Ben Kenobi, and the duo travel through spooky lands trying to stay one step ahead of rats and mice both.

Along the way, we get some of the mythology that makes this land what it is, and everything is brought to life with wonderful pencils and a colour palette that is at once both muted and bright.

Our heroes are in peril when the issue ends, and it is likely something the two mice must get used to on this adventure. The danger is going to be piling on.
