Things I’m Thankful For In Wrestling

Another Thanksgiving has come and gone, but the pounds from the Turkey are staying. Since I still have a little bit of Thanksgiving spirit in me, this week’s Opening Segment will list what I am most thankful for in wrestling.

CHIKARA Fans: On November 18th, Chikara put on their season finale entitled “Chapter 11”. Not only did the wrestlers put on a great show, but the fans made the atmosphere that much more enjoyable and comforting. If you haven’t heard, there was a CHIKARA Wrestler named Lince Dorado who executed a Shooting Star Senton on his opponent Mitch Ryder. He connected with the move, but suffered from taking a hard bump on his head. It was the most horrifying thing I’ve seen in wrestling, and during the moments while he was knocked out in the ring, there was not one peep from the Chikara Fans. After he was carried to the back with applause from the fans, Mike Quackenbush came out and informed us that the show would go on and we would get to see the main event on Chris Hero vs. Claudio Castagnoli! The Chikara fans made a collective groan and begged Quack to stop the show. Minutes after, he came right back out and told us that they would stop the show. The crowd cheered and stayed in the building until the oncoming ambulance for Lince Dorado had come and gone. I’m sorry, but this is the best fan-base that I have ever been to, and I’ve been to a handful of Indy Shows. Good job Chikara Fans, keep it up.

Chris Jericho’s Return on RAW: I know I usually don’t write about Televised Wrestling in here, but this is a topic that needs to be delivered. This was the first time I’ve watched a WWE program in a long time, and it’s been even longer since I watched a whole WWE program. Near the end, I kind of doubted he was coming. Then, Randy Orton said he has beaten everyone and there is no one left for him to beat. After a bit, the countdown came on and the pyro hit, and there he was. Chris Jericho. He didn’t mess up one line, he didn’t stutter once. He made his return, he made me laugh, and he made Randy Orton look like a fraud. Plus, he came down to his original music.

Smart Mark Video: Without them, Chikara DVDs may not be produced so quickly. I guess I’ll save a number and include PWG DVDs in here too. Support both of them by the way. Buy some DVDs for yourself. Sit back, relax, and watch some entertaining wrestling.

Ring of Honor: Lately, I’ve fallen off the Ring of Honor bandwagon. I don’t know why, I don’t know how, it just happened. I think it was somewhere between seeing Jimmy Rave get squashed on a PPV and The Briscoe Brothers winning two straight falls at Manhattan in August. Anyway, without Ring of Honor I wouldn’t be watching wrestling right now. I would’ve gotten sick of TV Wrestling and probably become an MMA Addict. Thank god that didn’t happen.

Bryan Danielson: Bryan Danielson is what he calls himself: “Best in the World”. No matter how you look at it, in terms of wrestling, entertainment, he is the best. He comes up with new moves every single time he makes a return to the ring after a hiatus, has one of the most painful finishers in the business (whether it be Cattle Mutilation, Head Stomp, or Nut Stomp). I remember at one show, some fan shouted something at Danielson. Danielson looked at him in disgust, and said “Nice Sandman T-Shirt. Ass-Hole.”

The Super Dragon vs. Kevin Steen Feud: This is the most heated feud I have ever seen. I can’t help but to get carried away and praise this feud every single chance I get. They did everything perfectly down to the last match between the two, which was amazing. They haven’t faced off since the end of the feud, which is the right thing to do. The last match was the big blow off and that was it. Amazing.

Friends: I am thankful for all the people I have met through wrestling that I can now call my friends. I want to send out a thank you to Mr. Glazer for giving me the chance to earn a spot on the Inside Pulse writing staff.

TNA: Without which, I wouldn’t be able to remind myself why I hate televised wrestling.

WWE Superstars like Big Daddy V, Benjamin, Noble and Punk: Why? For reminding Vince McMahon and other WWE Officials that you don’t need to be a monster on steroids sculpted to perfection to put on an entertaining show. Yeah, okay. I’ll admit I very rarely watch ECW.

CHIKARA and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla: The best things Independent Wrestling has going for itself right now. This is also a “Thank You” to the promoters and company owners for putting on such fantastic shows.

Glazer is thankful too. “I’m thankful that ROH and Chikara keep me a fan. I’m thankful that Danielson’s prime is as I watch. I’m thankful for the friends I’ve met in indy wrestling.”

We aren’t the only ones who are thankful. Matteus says “I’m thankful for Chikara. Ring of Honor is pretty bad-ass too. I’m thankful Lince Dorado is okay, and for such a fun night at Chapter 11!”
