[MLB] – Miguel Cabrera And Dontrelle Willis To Detroit

Obviously, there was huge news today as the Florida Marlins sent the last two pieces of their World Series team north to Detroit in exchange for an extra large sack of baseballs, some used astroturf, and season tickets to Tigers Stadium.

Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis were shipped north OF Cameron Maybin, LHP Andrew Miller, C Mike Rabelo, RHP Eulogio De La Cruz, RHP Burke Badenhop, and RHP Dallas Trahern. While it was undoubtedly a good trade that puts the Tigers almost unquestionably atop the competitive AL Central, it begs the question: “Will the Marlins’ payroll even clear $10M in 2008?”

To take a moment to rant, if Jeff Loria is so determined to ensure that his team is a Triple-A club, shouldn’t Major League Baseball help him out and relegate them? At the very least, pick a location and get them out of there. It’s embarassing that a professional league would allow a team with a $30M payroll to cut even more payroll and officially tank their season before it starts and urinate all over their fans.

I anxiously await the news that Loria and the Marlins have reached a tentative agreement with the city of Montreal, frying the brains of all involved.

We invite frustrated Marlins fans to vent in the forum.
