Arizona Gets Busy

The Arizona Diamondbacks made two separate deals today. The bigger of the two was sending 6 players (pitchers Brett Anderson, Dana Eveland and Greg Smith, infielder Chris Carter and outfielders Aaron Cunningham and Carlos Gonzalez)to the Oakland Athletics for Starting Pitcher Danny Haren and pitcher Connor Robertson. Haren should slide in behind Brandon Webb in Arizona’s rotation giving them a very solid 1-2 punch. Haren started last year like a ball of fire going 10-3 in the first half, earning the starting nod for the American League in the All-Star game.

In a separate move that baffles the living aitch e double hockey sticks outta me, Arizona traded last season’s Major League saves leader, Jose Valverde to the Houston Astros for reliever Chad Qualls and pitcher Juan Guiterrez.
