Make Movement: Flair is RAW and Happy New Year

Columns

Happy New Year! It’s hard to believe 2007 is now over, but if you’re anything like me, I’m ready for a brand new year. The taped RAW from Greensboro Coliseum was pretty good and like everything in North Carolina, centers around Ric Flair. RAW had significant importance because this could very well be the last time Ric Flair wrestles in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Flair, once again, gave a heart and soul match against Triple H with a crowd that can appreciate it. I have no complaints about the match, it was realistic, the crowd was with it as they always are. The Regal interference saves both HHH and Flair face by neither a clean win or loss, and adds the question to why did Regal interfere. Was he there to save a legend in the business from losing? Was he just trying to cost Hunter? Was any of it on Vince’s behalf after Vince’s berating scolding of Regal over Hornswoggle earlier in the night? I only wish that JR would have piped in some classic stats about Flair in Greensboro Coliseum. I hate it when there is such history in one building, and to give it that extra special flavor, talk about some of the Flair Classics.

I also am enjoying the buildup with Randy Orton and Jeff Hardy with the use of Matt Hardy as bait. I really can’t see that WWE will back Jeff Hardy beyond a brief WWE Championship reign, because I’m thinking he has a good chance of being transitional champion to Triple H, but stranger things have happened. I still believe the belt should be taken off of Orton as soon as possible and the best thing WWE could do right now is really capitalize with the fact Jeff Hardy would have a childhood dream coming true by becoming WWE Champion.

Another good match last night was HBK versus Kennedy, with Kennedy getting the clean win. I’m sure this feud has a good month or so left but not sure if I want to see them face each other at WrestleMania. Personally, I want to see this somehow transition into a feud with JBL sometime down the line this year because the quality promo time between those two would be priceless. The actual JBL firework display almost Big Daddy Cool Diesel meets the Fourth of July style promo setup is a dangerous thing to do right now. The talent of JBL is his ability to sell us on himself by talking, he doesn’t necessarily need that long a setup to show he’s full of himself.

I wonder what the WWE will do with Umaga? He gets screen time to squash Duggan afterall. Umaga has come such a long way in 2007, that I wonder what they will do with him unless he gets the IC Belt or serving as the convenient hit man for McMahon and Orton.

I’ve also decided after the women (realistically) continue to struggle with gaining any ground on winning against Beth Phoenix, that Victoria needs to return to RAW. I hate to see the women’s division running in a circle of loss against the top heel of Beth Phoenix. In no way should Candice Michelle return and beat Beth right away when Mickie James has the experience and ring capability to do so and can’t get it done.

Always remember, for things to change, you have to make movement. Thanks for reading, for all your support in 2007 and for all the feedback, feel free to contact me anytime at Bam@4sternstaging.com. May your 2008 be filled with prosperity, fun and happiness!
