2007/2008 TV Season Ratings Report – Week of 12/31 – 1/6/08

Monday (12/31/07)

Overall:

#1 ABC (4.2)
#2 CBS (3.2)
#3 NBC (2.5)
#4 FOX (2.3)
#5 CW (0.8)

Adults 18-49:

#1 ABC (2.4)
#2 FOX (1.4)
#3 CBS (1.3)
#4 NBC (1.2)
#5 CW (0.4)

Monday’s Top Shows:
Shrek 2, ABC
Two and a Half Men(R), CBS
Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, ABC

My Thoughts: Not surprisingly, most viewers chose to tune out on New Year’s Eve…

Tuesday (1/1/08)

Overall:

#1 FOX (7.4)
#2 NBC (6.7)
#3 CBS (5.5)
#4 ABC (4.0)
#5 CW (1.0)

Adults 18-49:

#1 FOX (4.9)
#2 NBC (4.3)
#3 ABC (2.2)
#4 CBS (1.9)
#5 CW (0.5)

Tuesday’s Top Shows:
Sugar Bowl, FOX
Biggest Loser, NBC
NCIS(R), CBS
Law & Order: SVU, NBC

My Thoughts: Numbers picked up pretty significantly on New Year’s Day, as FOX scored decent ratings despite the Georgia vs. Hawaii mismatch. NBC enjoyed a strong, repeat-free night as well…

Wednesday (1/2/08)

Overall:

#1 NBC (8.5)
#2 FOX (7.3)
#3 ABC (5.8)
#4 CBS (4.5)
#5 CW (1.4)

Adults 18-49:

#1 FOX (4.1)
#1 NBC (3.7)
#3 ABC (3.7)
#4 CBS (1.9)
#5 CW (0.9)

Wednesday’s Top Shows:
Deal or No Deal, NBC
Law & Order, NBC
Fiesta Bowl, FOX

My Thoughts: Proving that we’re dealing with an entirely different landscape as the Strike marches on, NBC benefits with fresh episodes of the tired L&O franchise. And FOX’s bowl ratings are akin to settling for a field goal instead of a touchdown…

Thursday (1/3/08)

Overall:

#1 CBS (7.2)
#1 NBC (7.2)
#3 FOX (7.0)
#4 ABC (3.9)
#5 CW (1.5)

Adults 18-49:

#1 NBC (4.0)
#1 FOX (4.0)
#3 CBS (2.6)
#4 ABC (1.8)
#5 CW (0.9)

Thursday’s Top Shows:
Deal or No Deal, NBC
Orange Bowl, FOX
CSI(R), CBS
Celebrity Apprentice, NBC
Without a Trace(R), CBS

My Thoughts: NBC continues to crank out the cheap Deal or No Deal. That, plus the unfortunate return of The Apprentice – led NBC to another solid night. But we’ll see how many viewers return to “The Donald” in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, ABC and CBS continue to suffer the most from the ongoing strike…

Friday (1/4/08)

Overall:

#1 NBC (4.5)
#2 ABC (4.4)
#3 CBS (3.9)
#4 FOX (3.9)
#5 CW (2.8)

Adults 18-49:

#1 NBC (2.1)
#2 FOX (2.0)
#3 ABC (1.6)
#4 CBS (1.6)
#5 CW (1.6)

Friday’s Top Shows:
1 vs. 100, NBC
Ghost Whisperer(R), CBS
Women’s Murder Club, ABC
20/20, ABC
Las Vegas, NBC

My Thoughts: NBC rides more game-show schlock, plus a fresh new ep of Las Vegas, to another victory night. Then again, just how “fresh” can Las Vegas possibly be at this point?

Sunday (1/6/08)

Overall:

#1 CBS (9.8)
#2 ABC (7.8)
#3 NBC (6.5)
#4 FOX (3.5)
#5 CW (0.6)

Adults 18-49:

#1 CBS (4.5)
#1 ABC (4.5)
#3 NBC (4.4)
#4 FOX (2.7)
#5 CW (0.3)

Sunday’s Top Shows:
60 Minutes, CBS
The Amazing Race, CBS
Desperate Housewives, ABC

My Thoughts: Sunday night snagged the most viewers for the week. The 60 Minutes interview with Roger Clemens and a new Desperate Housewives were the main reasons why. Meanwhile, NBC’s American Gladiators and ABC’s Cashmere Mafia numbers were good, not great…

It’s a brand new ball-game as 2008’s first week comes to a close. Repeats, mid-season replacements, and an unhealthy dose of reality programming and game shows lie ahead – as does the Goliath known as American Idol
