Make Movement: The New Showstopper

Columns

Consistently speaking, Jeff Hardy is the reason to watch RAW, the one fans are going to be talking about week after week and should without question be given a chance to run with the “ball.” My only concern is with the booking of Jeff Hardy the last two weeks of RAW, are we expecting him to be risky spot after risky spot week and week out now? Are fans going to be less pleased if he doesn’t do a Swanton every week from insane heights? Regardless, even though we’ve always known Jeff Hardy was a daredevil risk taker, I think he may have earned the title of the new Showstopper.

The spot, which was filmed from so many different angles, was dangerous yet beautiful to see in slow motion. I also don’t want Hardy’s career to be based on how many high spots he’s going to take to stay in the main event picture. Hardy has the ability to be the risk taker, charismatic enigma, but I also don’t want to see his career cut short because he’s expected to put his body through extreme bump card hell to be WWE Champion. Having two weeks worth of risky spots has me questioning what they will do at the Garden because it will have to overshadow what he’s done so far, and that’s hard to do.

Not much else really caught my eye this week, the Hornswaggle Rumble match was cute and it worked out really well to set up the real Great Khali to come after Hornswaggle, saved by Fit Finley. I like seeing that new Shawn Michaels submission move as well. It’s interesting how they’ve decided to show Michaels more as technical wrestler in recent times instead of letting him depend on the superkick.

The Flair versus Regal match wasn’t built up properly and seemed to just fill the show which really undermines Flair’s storyline all together.

I’m also unclear to what’s going on with Triple H’s storyline either. I suppose he’s in Austin type role, getting under Vince’s skin as he keeps him out of the Rumble. Destroying the screen has been done before so it sort of loses it affect and it was so easy to see that was coming since Triple H never carries his sledgehammer to the back.

I don’t know what is to be expected of the WWE Women’s Division anymore, I guess Candice will be built like the Jericho of the women’s division. Mickie has somehow been watered down because no one is beating The Glamazon. I wonder if WWE plans to go in the direction of Playboy versus Playboy with Ashley versus Maria, who has reportedly rumored to be the newest WWE girl to pose. I also hope that they will play up Jillian Hall’s (bad) singing to time it with American Idol coming back on the air.

Finally, JBL, who gets the most pyro now and balloons, cut a really long promo on Jericho. I thought that went a little too long and I love JBL as a heel storyteller. Next week will be the test if that story remains hot going into RAW because right now, I’m not feeling it as much as I was before.
