BLATT vs. ECW – January 29th, 2008 Live!

Reviews, Shows, TV Shows

We start with the reminder of how CM Punk lost the ECW title last week. I kinda wish he would have lost fair and square, but if this leads to a Punk vs. Edge program, I’m okay with that. We’ll see with time I guess.

DON’T QUESTION THE FIRE THAT BURNS INSIDE!

That new set is ginormous. I wish Cablevision would get off their asses and add SciFi in HD, but I guess I’l still settling for regular D.

Kane over Shelton Benjamin by count out
Shelton starts with forearms, but it’s cut short with a Kane clothesline. Kane drives Shelton into the corner, hits his uppercut, whips Shelton and drops the head too quick and Shelton gives Kane the rookie’s-mistake boot. Kane throws Shelton out and Shelton skins the cat and back only to have Kane clothesline him out.

Shelton tries to leave, but Kane gives chase and throws him back into t he ring. Kane goes up top and Shelton jumps up and gives Kane a superplex. Shelton can only get a two. TWO! Shelton throws some fists to KAne, but Kane turns it around with an uppercut. Kane lifts Shelton up, but Shelton flips over, goes behind and kicks out Kane’s knee. Shelton drags Kane’s knee to the corner post and throws it into the exposed post a few times.

Back in, Shelton corners Kane and drives more kicks towards the leg. Kane is selling this like a champion. Shelton grabs a leg and drags Kane to the middle and stretches out the Knee of Kane, settling on a single leg Boston crab. Kane rolls to his back and grabs Shelton’s throat. Shelton kicks the knee again, but Kane throws Shelton to the corner and hits a pair of clotheslines. Kane hits a powerslam for two. TWO!

Kane goes for a suplex, but Shelton floats over and attempts a neck breaker. Kane throws him off, whips him to the ropes and hits the sidewalk slam. Kane goes up top and hits the flting clothesline and signals for the chokeslam. Shelton goes for a kick, Kane catches the foot and Shelton spins around and hits Kane with a jumping round kick. Shelton goes up top, Kane does the sit up. Kane grabs Shelton by the throat, but Shelton hangs Kane’s neck across the top rope. shelton comes back in, but gets a big boot from Kane. Shelton begins to walk up the ramp again, and this time he gets intentionally counted out. Wow. That doesn’t happen often… Shelton goes unpinned in ECW, while we get more murky booking that loosely protects Shelton’s record.

Victoria over Kelly Kelly by Widow’s Peak
Recap of last week’s best body competition before leading to this mismatch. Victoria taunts Kelly before getting shoved. A shove from Victoria sends Kelly tot he mat. Victoria continues the punishment and Layla and Lena come out to ringside. This match pretty much goes as you’d expect with Kelly getting in minimal reversals with weak moves. Kelly lands some clotheslines and hits a Frankensteiner for a two. TWO! Victoria ends this with the Widow’s Peak. Victoria is my hero. One. Two. Three. Post match, Layla continues her assault on Kelly Kelly.

Victoria seems to be the go-to lady for a tough woman who can beat the hell out of the pretty girls.

Backstage, Colin Delaney has more bandages and is sitting backstage.I hope they sign this kid, because they have a potential HUGE story line on their hands here. I doubt that the ECW fans of late really remember Mikey Whipwreck. Hell, they could even pair him up with Mick Foley if they really want to re-visit the past. I just really hope Dusty sees this kid and wants to push him to the moon.

In the ring, Colin’s with Tazz. I’d suggest a team with Kane, he’s pretty good with the wacky partners angle. We see some replays of Colin getting killed. The WWE is nearly out of big men for him to fight. Tazz has some good news, Colin doesn’t have to fight one of those men tonight. Instead, he has to fight the WWE tag team champions. BOTH OF THEM. Okay, this seems a little silly. A handicapped match against this guy?

The Douches over Colin Delaney by unfair booking
The Miz and Morrison might be outmatched here. Morrison shoves Delaney and Delaney sells it. Morrison puts Colin into the corner and the Miz hits a running clothesline. Next up, Morrison, but Delaney ducks. Next, Miz misses and goes over the top rope tot he outside. The Miz drags Delaney to the outside. The Miz holds Delaney as Morrison hits a baseball slide. The Douches throw Colin on his face, and Miz pull shim up after a two count. Both Douches hit their finishers and the match is over.

Post match, they continue the punishment And OUT COMES TOMMY DREAMER!!! HELLOOOOO MIKEY WHIPWRECK 2.0!!!

CM Punk over Elijah Burke by GTS
Interesting. They didn’t fight when Punk was champion, but they’ll throw this match up once Punk loses the belt. The crowd is huge behind Punk. Collar and elbow, Punk gets a headlock. Burke whips Punk, attempts an arm drag and Punk reverses for one of his own. Punk hits a bodyslam and a few chops. Punk whips Burke to the ropes, Burke catches himself and sends a boot to Punk’s face and goes up top for a flying forearm for at two. TWO!

Burke sends Punk’s head to the turnbuckle. Punk fights out, but Burke sends Punk’s shoulder into the post. Burke hits a back suplex for a two. TWO!

Burke wraps up Punk on the canvas, but Punk fights out, sending some fists to Burke’s gut. Steamboat’s rule sends Punk back to the mat with a body scissors and a rear chin lock. Punk fights out again, pushing Burke into the corner. Burke goes tot he well for the same combo of moves again. The crowd is dead now for Punk’s fight out again. Punk kicks Burke in the guy and hits the knee lift in the corner. Burke ships Punk and attempts to leapfrog Punk, but instead Punk catches him and hits the GTS.

Kofi Kingston over Rob Echoes
Pretty sure that was his name. Meh. Quick match. Remember Super Street Fighter II? Kofi Kingston is pretty much Dee Jay from SSF2

The mariachi band warms up as we go to commercial…

We’re back and the band is in the ring, getting boos from the audience. Estrada is in the ring, and he introduces Chavo as the new ECW champion. Vicky won’t be here tonight, and neither will Edge. They couldn’t make it, but sent along a video. It’s a career package about Chavo’s career, but only in the WWE, despite using a WCW Bobby Heenan quote to intro the clip.

Back in the real world, Chavo’s on the mic. Chavo pumps up Edge’s feud with Rey during his championship ceremony. He tells the fans “I told you so” that CM Punk was not the future. Blah blah blah, nothing to see here. Chavo shows off the belt around his waist and he tunes up the band to celebrate the champion and his fiesta. Balloons pour down from the ceiling in appropriate LWO colors.

the lead band members turns around and clocks Chavo over the head with his guitar. It’s CM Punk with a fake mustache and mariachi outfit! While it was coming a mile away, it was still pretty cool.
