ROH Head Booker Gabe Sapolsky posted the following on the ROH message board about the 6th anniversary weekend:
“I haven’t done one of these posts in a while and with the 6th Anniversary Show coming up this Saturday there is no better time. For the past six years February has been a very special time. Six years ago February was a very nervous time for me. How would our first show be received? What would the future hold? Honestly, I didn’t think we’d make it to three years. My personal secret goal was to make it to five years. Now here we are with six years of incredible memories.
“Every ROH birthday is something that I take great pride in. It is something that I personally celebrate. It is something that our entire office staff and every talent that has performed on our shows takes pride in. Most importantly, every anniversary show is really a celebration for you. It is only with your support that we have made it this far. I know it sounds like a cliche, but for a company with no million dollar corporation behind it, no sponsors, no network, practically nothing, every bit of your support keeps us alive. You have given us six unbelievable years and we can’t thank you enough. I like to write emails to the roster talking about working as a team to put on the best possible show, well you are all part of that team because you keep the heart beating. I really mean that. Thank you.
“Now onto some other stuff that has been on my mind. I am counting the days until March 7th when “Rising Above” debuts on PPV. I have watched Nigel McGuinness vs. Austin Aries about 10 times including the absolute final cut last night. I am going on record now as saying this is the best match we’ve ever put on PPV. It also gets better everytime you watch it. Both Nigel and Aries deserve all the credit in the world for such an incredible contest. The entire PPV really takes the product in a more gritty direction with some backstage stuff that I’m really proud of. This will be a must for all you metal fans out there. Speaking of music…
“It was great being stopped by some ROH fans at the Neurosis show last month in Brooklyn. How cool was it that Scott Kelly was wearing a ROH sweatshirt? My goal has always been to be the Neurosis of wrestling. Seeing ROH and Neurosis combine like that was really one of the biggest thrills of my ROH career.
“It was really a blast blowing things up in FIP last Saturday. Maybe its time to shake things up like that in ROH? Stay tuned….
“Make sure to catch the new Video Wire today and spread the word about it. I really liked how the Nigel feature came out. It was something different for us and also something I’d like to keep doing in the future with various talents. I hope a lot of people see it before Saturday’s match vs. Bryan Danielson.
“Kota Ibushi is awesome. We will have announcements soon as to who he is wrestling on his one time only tour of ROH in April. I think some guys are going to have breakout matches against him. I have been told he is really excited about this tour and it is a really big deal for him and everyone in his home DDT promotion in Japan.
“As if having the anniversary at the Manhattan Center wasn’t enough motivation, I have to admit that there is another one. We are well aware of some competition in NYC. To paraphrase Jimmy Rollins, we will be the show to beat. We will have the best and most newsworthy show in Manhattan and Long Island. NYC will be hot this weekend, Orlando will be a battleground at the end of March. The winners in all this will be the fans as there is nothing like some competition to light a fire under everyone’s ass. I’m not saying a late 90s style wrestling war is about to start. I’m just saying that ROH is going to prove why you all feel that ROH is the best product out there today. No one is going to show us up.
“This is going to be a really fun weekend. Thank you for six wonderful years. I hope you will join us for the party.”
