Paramount cancels most of its HD DVD titles

Disc Announcements, News

With Toshiba throwing in the towel with making HD DVD players, and speculation running rampant after the decision (will Universal and Paramount go Blu?) and future HD DVD releases, Paramount has confirmed that Into the Wild and Things We Lost in the Fire will be its last two HD DVD releases.

According to a recent article in The Hollywood Reporter, the studio is expected to release its first new Blu-ray titles this summer.

Paramount (and its subsidiary DreamWorks) had nearly a half-dozen HD DVD titles scheduled for release through early Spring. The studio had planned to release the following:

March 25: The Jack Ryan Collection, The Kite Runner
April 1: Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
April 15: There Will Be Blood

As of now there’s been no comment about DreamWorks Animation and the planned March 11 release of Bee Movie. The promotional material website for Paramount still shows the HD DVD cover art for Bee Movie.
