ROH News on 3/15 Dover Show, Roderick Strong vs. Erick Stevens & More!

News

Following is from the ROH Newswire for March 04, 2008, at ROHwrestling.com…

A rematch of the 2/23 Joey Matthews vs. Kevin Steen match-up has been signed for 3/15 in Dover, NJ. Matthews wants another shot at Steen after falling victim to the Sharpshooter in New York City. Steen however more than welcomes the challenge on his road to a World Title shot in Edison, NJ on 4/12.

In addition, “The Wrestler”, starring Mickey Rourke and directed by Darren Aronofky (of “Pi” and “Requiem for a Dream” fame), will also be filming at the 3/14 and 3/15 Dover shows. With tickets as low as $7 as part of the 30% sale right now at ROHwrestling.com, this is a unique opportunity for all the Ring of Honor fans in the area to see something special.

Ring of Honor is also counting down the days to Friday, March 7th, the debut of their newest Pay Per View, “Rising Above.” The PPV will be available on iN DEMAND, The DISH Network, TVN cable systems, and Fios TV. ROH officials believe that this is their best PPV yet, with the Nigel McGuinness vs. Austin Aries ROH World Title Match already being deemed an early Match of the Year contender. Here is the lineup:

The Briscoes have finally made their return back to the States after their most recent NOAH tour. Although having failed to capture the GHC Heavyweight Tag Team Championship belts from Naomichi Marufuji & Takashi Suguira, their match is said to be incredible and will be added to a future Ring of Honor DVD as a bonus for RoH fans.

Now firmly on American soil, the proud Briscoe Brothers vow to have their revenge against the Age of The Fall and will face their arch-enemies in a No Rules Tag Team War 3/16 in Philly for their 6th Pay Per View. The Briscoes promise the damnedest fight you’ll ever see on PPV.

In other news, Roderick Strong will be taking on Erick Stevens at Supercard of Honor 3 in Orlando, FL for 3/29. There will be a stipulation added to this match after the 3/22 FIP show which is sure to ramp the brutality of their feud up to another level.

I’ve got to say that I’m really not all that impressed by the news of another Joey Matthews vs. Kevin Steen match. I saw the original live in NYC and it was easily the worst match of the night. As I described it earlier on the Ring of Honor forums, the match had less heat than a Matt Cross vs. Matt Cross confrontation and it already looks to be the worst thing on the 3/15 card. Give me another Larry Sweeney talk show segment anytime.

However I am excited by the prospect of another Roderick Strong/Erick Stevens confrontation. For some reason, although I’m not a fan of Stevens, I love watching Roderick beat the heck out of him. It just feels satisfying for some strange reason.
