The final regular season game at Yankee Stadium will take place on September 21st against the Orioles. However, the Daily News is reporting that there is a plan in place to have the Rangers play a regular season outdoor game at Yankee Stadium before the building is taken down. The News is reporting that the NHL and NBC would likely want the opponent for the historic game to be another one of the Original Six. One step further, they’d probably want it to be the Red Wings. The Leafs and Hawks are terrible, Canadian ratings don’t count in the US (this space normally would be reserved for a joke about the which makes the Habs kind of worthless for this purpose, and the Bruins have alienated most of their fans. Of course, this is also the NHL… which means we could get the Thrashers or the Ducks.
While a lot of Yankee fans don’t seem to like this idea (the last game played at Yankee Stadium should be played by the Yankees, not the Rangers) most other parties seem excited by the prospect.
