Thanks to pulse wrestling reader DJBrettA for sending these along:

Hello! I went to the combined Smackdown/ECW afternoon show (3-9-08) in Dubuque, Iowa today and thought I would send you the results in case you wanted to post them. We don’t get much in the way of entertainment around here so this was definitely a breath of fresh air and got a big turn-out to boot. There were definitely a bunch of people disappointed that the advertised Rey Mysterio was not there but the crowd was hot from the get-go and was molten for the main event. Its not that difficult to entertain this town but it seemed like the wrestlers didn’t dog it and put on a great show for our little city. I was thinking about taking a pass on the show as I’m not thrilled with the TV Product but I am a HUGE CM Punk fan and have not seen him live since his ROH days and I was curious to see how he would change his game for the sports entertainment crowd.

Results:
Announcer Justin Roberts came out and introduced The Extreme Dictator – Armando Estrada! He came out to a chorus of boos and heeled it up very old school by saying he would cancel the show if we didn’t shut up and by getting the name of the city wrong. He then announced the card for the evening and said that the match between JBL and Finlay would be a “fans vote the stipulations match” and we could choose between 2/3 falls, Street Fight, or Falls Count Anywhere by texting. Referee Scott Armstrong then came out for the first match of the evening.

Match 1:
ECW Championship
Chavo Guererro Jr. pinned CM Punk after a rollup while holding the ropes. AWESOME match and definitely the best of the whole show. Punk was over huge and the WWE should push him to the moon if this crowd’s reaction is any indication.

Match 2:
Jesse and Festus defeated Chuck Palumbo and Kevin Kiley (I think that was his name as the sound system wasn’t that good ) after a fireman’s carry into a flapjack. The Hillbillies brought a kid into the ring with them afterwards to dance and pat Festus’ head.

Match 3:
Jamie Noble used a cool diving knee off the top rope to the back of the neck to pin Zach Ryder. Crowd was DEAD silent for this match.

Match 4:
Tommy Dreamer and Kofi Kingston beat Big Daddy V and Shelton Benjamin (with Matt Striker) after a Kingston roll-up on Shelton Benjamin. Benjamin and Big Daddy V got into an argument afterwards before Shelton bailed and ran to the back.

Match 5:
US Title
MVP retained his title against Matt Hardy when he got himself intentionally disqualified. Before the match MVP announced that he had qualified for the MITB match at Wrestlemania last night in Osh Kosh and would go on to win it and then become the first man to hold the US and World Titles at the same time. I guess this means yet ANOTHER title is not gonna be defended at Wrestlemania along with the IC, Women’s, and Tag Belts. Other than Edge, MVP got the most heat of the afternoon.

INTERMISSION
I braved the unwashed masses to pick up an ECW Title Replica Belt and some CM Punk swag. It took forever and I barely got back to my seat in time for …..

Match 6:
Victoria missed a moonsault and was pinned by Kelly Kelly. Pretty bad – especially after having been to SHIMMER cards recently. Kelly threw a fugly dropkick after dueling cartwheels and later landed right on her face after a satellite head scissors! Looks like someone needs a few more trips down to Florida.

Teddy Long then came out and announced that the fans had voted and the stipulation for the next match would be …….. STREET FIGHT!

Match 7:
Fans Pick The Match: Street Fight
Finlay pinned JBL after a shot with the Shack-a-lackey . Pretty uninspired for a street fight with weak weapon shots and no blood but the crowd really liked it so I guess it served its purpose. Before the match JBL got the crowd good and riled up by calling Teddy Long “boy” twice (Yikes!), calling us all inbred trailer park trash, and by saying that he has never once paid to see any of us but we have all paid to see him today. He capped it off by saying after his match we all need to get in a single-file line and he would pull his tights down and we could all kiss his ass one-at-a-time!

Main Event:
Batista and Kane defeated The Big Show and Edge after a Batista Bomb on Edge. Edge came out and started dry humping the mat to MONSTER heat. Kane got a good pop but Batista’s was positively Hogan-esque. Before the match Edge got on the mic and was pure gold. He told a lady at ringside “sweetie you need to shut up and really need a bra”, got the name of our town wrong and then said “Dubuque is even worse”, and finally said “I hate this place and I am gonna take it out on both of you!” and rushed the ring. He then proceeded to tag out 3 seconds into the match and hide outside while his PARTNER Big show called him a chicken and pretended to flap his wings. Out of all the wrestlers in this thing they had Big Show work the majority of the match – Why” If you like bear hugs and facelocks this is definitely the match for you. Funny moment as some kids near me in the bleachers started chanting “Kane is the next Flair” – are they on crack?

Overall a pretty entertaining show due mainly to the hard work of the undercard guys but even the slugs in the main event knew how to time their comebacks and play to the crowd to keep it interesting. The show drew pretty well and it looked like a ton of merchandise was sold so it looks like the “E” will probably come back again and I hope they do because lord knows some decent wrestling is a lot better way to spend an afternoon in the Midwest than what is normally available. I hope these results help and if you want to post them that would be great. Have a great day!
