Buena Vista and Blu-ray titles upcoming

Disc Announcements, News, Rumors

Buena Vista, one of the early adopters of Blu-ray technology, started the year with a bang bringing catalog titles like The Rock and Con Air to the world of high definition. In the upcoming months, Buena Vista Home Entertainment has some new titles coming to Blu-ray.

April 1st (no joke) sees the releases of Hidalgo, M. Night Shyamalan’s Unbreakable, and Coyote Ugly: Double Shot Edition. As a means to cross-promote the theatrical release Prince Caspian, the theatrical version of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe will make its bow to Blu-ray in May – tentatively scheduled for 5/13. Both the collector’s edition of National Treasure and the successful sequel National Treasure: Book of Secrets will follow on 5/20. June will see the Blu-ray releases of The Recruit and M. Night Shyamalan’s Signs on 6/3. Martin Scorsese’s Oscar-nominated Gangs of New York is confirmed for 7/1.

Sleeping Beauty will be the first Platinum Edition animated title on Blu-ray. It arrives on 10/7.

There have been hints that the studio will release these titles in the fall of ’08: Nixon: Election Year Edition and Good Will Hunting. And there are early rumblings for a few titles planned for 2009: Kill Bill 1 & 2 and Finding Nemo.
