2008 MLB Preview Wrap-Up

Top Story

What a long, strange trip it’s been. I haven’t gotten to use that quote since high school it was SO TRENDY.

Regardless, I think the feature came together pretty well and hopefully it will act as a good base to start building Tailgate Crashers back up. I was very happy to get Aaron Cameron back to the Sports Section and am going to have to figure out some way to get him back here weekly. Since he’s an A’s fan, he’ll probably be bored by like… mid-June. He handled our previews for the West Sayeeeed. Check out the NL West and the AL West previews.

Eugene, our regular baseball guy is a Cardinals fan and handled the Central. He handles most of the baseball day-to-day. In fact, today he posted a Transaction Log that will hopefully become a Friday staple here at TGC. He’s also the author of the TGC Column Riding The Pine. You can check out his previews of the AL Central and NL Central.

I myself handled the previews for the East. I could only do the East because I live on the East Coast and, therefore, the rest of the sports world is kinda/sorta not there. I have as good a chance of writing a coherent column about the Cubs or Mariners as I do of writing one about my personal experiences with menstrual cramps. I’m hoping to use this platform to editorialize about baseball and maybe get in a few good divisional arguments with my compatriots. You can check out my previews here for the NL East and the AL East.

The 2nd big feature we put together was 25 Questions Until Opening Day. The aforementioned three of us were joined by Chad Jorgenson and Mike Hulse. Chad’s been one of a few guys valiantly keeping the site alive as I struggled with the crappy server and even crappier, outdated content management system (That I may or may not have written at some point) that plagued the old site. Mike is a friend of mine and fellow sports nut and the one guy I can count on to have a stupid sports argument over IM in the middle of the day. Mike wrote a few columns for the old Inside Pulse that have not made the transition yet. You can check out the 25 Questions Part I, Part II, Part III, Part IV, and Part V. You can also vote on who’s the most correct to the right.

You can also check out the Tailgate Crashers Who’s Gonna Win It All where you can see that I’m apparently the only person who thinks the Padres are going to pull it off this season, the only person who thinks the Yankees can beat the Red Sox in the divisional race, and the only person who sees the Astros in the playoffs. On the other hand, Hulse is the only one who’s got the Mariners in the playoffs. Go figure.

The comments on this thread are open, so if you’d like to get your own predictions in under the wire, you can gloat at us in September when you wind up being correct.
