5oz’s of Fury: Florian, Fedor, UFC 85, and more!

Columns

Ultimate Fight Night – I went three for three in predictions, including one of my upset picks when Thiago Alves stopped Karo Parisyan (I didn’t think it was that bad of a stop). The two guys who really impressed me were Kenny Florian and Joe Lauzon. Florian is a monster and his (probably) upcoming fight against Roger Huerta should be sick. Lauzon, while not getting in that much offense, still kept it exciting while eating twenty or thirty shots to the head without quitting. Florian is ready for a co-PPV main event, and Lauzon I feel has earned his way to at least the televised card.

UFC in England – The fine folks at Zuffa made official three fights for UFC 85 in England: Marcus Davis vs. Mike Swick, Nate Marquardt vs. Thales Leites, and Martin Kampmann vs. Jorge Rivera. The fight I’m most looking forward to is Davis vs. Swick. I’m rapidly becoming a huge “Irish Hand Grenade” fan, and besides having the coolest nickname this side of “Twinkle Toes,” Karo Parisian’s recent loss may have just put him in line for a title shot. You would think Jon Fitch is next in line for the winner of Georges St. Pierre/Matt Serra, but another big win or two could easily put Marcus Davis as number two. Could a victory over Mike Swick be that win?

Houston Alexander – Oh well. He went from showing a lot of promise to being on the losing end of the fastest (or tied for the fastest) knock-out in UFC history. Meh.

Fedor wants HOW MUCH?!? – According to EliteXC president Gary Shaw, Fedor Emeliananko wants two million dollars per fight. Is he serious? If that’s really his asking price, let’s see how quickly he goes from dominate heavyweight to forgotten heavyweight. Anderson Silva is even laying claim to the title of “best pound for pound,” and he still actively fights.

You tell me – What fights are you looking forward to? Let me know in the comment area.

And because you ate your vegetables, here’s Rachelle Leah…
