April 29th, 2008 (Los Angeles, CA) – Renowned writer Greg Rucka, best known for WHITEOUT, CHECKMATE and QUEEN AND COUNTRY, recently interviewed Gary Phillips about Phillips’ gritty new BOOM! Studios crime mini-series HIGH ROLLERS for Newsarama.com, in a feature that also includes a seven-page exclusive series preview.

The interview highlights Phillips’ brilliant work in the crime genre, his inspiration for writing, and lays to rest once and for all why Gary calls Greg “Doc!”

A tale of crime and destiny, HIGH ROLLERS spotlights Cameron Quinn, a ruthless upstart out to make a name for himself. Phillips shines a harsh light on the action and drama of the L.A. underworld. HIGH ROLLERS is a four-issue mini-series, coming out monthly, for fans of violent crime stories like THE SOPRANOS and THE WIRE.

HIGH ROLLERS marks a continuation of Phillips’ comic book career; previously, Phillips wrote ANGELTOWN for DC’s Vertigo imprint and both SHOT CALLERZ and MIDNIGHT MOVER for Oni Press. Phillip’s novels include BANGERS, HIGH HAND, SHOOTER’S POINT, and many others.  Phillips most recently contributed a short story to the anthology L.A. NOIR.

“I hope comics fans will give HIGH ROLLERS a read,” Phillips said.  “I think all concerned will be pleasantly surprised.”

HIGH ROLLERS #1 features a cover by Brett Wendele with interior art by Sergio Carrera and carries a Diamond item order code of APR083634.

ah, the good old Dr Manolis, the original comics Greek. He's been at this for sometime. he was there when the Comics Nexus was founded, he even gave it its name, he even used to run it for a couple of years. he's been writing about comics, geeking out incessantly and interviewing busier people than himself for over ten years now and has no intention of stopping anytime soon.
