The Weekend Rumors from MLB Trade Rumors
– Khalil Greene’s name is popping up with a few teams, including the Blue Jays and Cubs; the Padres are looking for another young SS, CF, or pitcher.
– The Phillies have not begun extension talks with Cole Hamels; they want to make sure he’s healthy first.
– Jason Tyner has been DFA by the Indians.
– BJ Upton is the next Ray to get a deal from the team.
– 7 teams have watched Fredy Garcia – the Mets, Red Sox, Braves, Yankees, White Sox, Rangers, and Mariners. More are expected for his next workout.
– The Angels have stated they are open to in season negoitations with free agent to be Francisco Rodriguez.
– The Rockies signed Glendon Rusch to a minor league deal.
– The Indians want a hitting upgrade, but they prefer an infielder.
– Mark Bellhorn signed a minor league deal with the Dodgers – he’s currently in Double A.
– Ryan Howard doesn’t appear to be in a hurry to sign a contract extension with the Phillies.
– Hanley Ramirez’s extension seems to be it right now for the Marlins.
– The Cardinals are not shopping for bullpen help just yet – they are looking at in house options first.
– Joakim Soria signs a 3 year extension with 3 option years with the Royals; he’s guaranteed $8MM and the contract could get as large as $32MM.
– The Rangers will use Josh Hamilton as DH more often to keep him fresh.
– Coco Crisp could be back on the trade market since Brandon Moss is almost back with the Red Sox; the Sox could wait until the off season to get the best deal for him.
– The Indians may put Paul Byrd on the market since they currently have 7 MLB ready starters.
– Richie Sexson for Carlos Delgado is mentioned again.
– Omar Vizquel could be a possible replacement for Julio Lugo, if Lugo continues to struggle.
– Kenny Lofton is still hoping to get a contract.
– The Royals haven’t approached any of their other young players about an extension; they didn’t for Soria – he went to them.
– The Red Sox have approached Dustin Pedroia about an extension.
– Howie Kendrick is open to an extension while Casey Kotchman wants to go year to year.
– The Dodgers have approached Russ Martin twice about an extension, but he’s declined both times.
