10 Thoughts on Impact – 06.05.2008

Reviews, Shows, TV Shows

1. Almost unbelievably, the heel turn had the desired effect on AJ Styles. He cut two good (one of which was very good) face promos tonight. Great to see him display that kind of comfort and fire on the mic.

2. The King of Mountain happens once a year… then when it occurs on TV, it’s not only once this year. Come on, at least announce it as a special one time occurrence or something. Still, this isn’t a bad idea as it gave fans an opportunity to see how the rules worked in a fun, brutal spotfest.

3. In a Street Fight, the beautiful people should have straight up jumped ODB. That they didn’t is stupid. The match also featured the weakest weapons ever with an orange, a sign, and a plastic bottle all utilized. Oh, and Mickie Knuckles is not very good. Not thrilled to see her in TNA. I think I did the opposite of mark out.

4. Becky Bayless, ROH backstage interviewer and Shimmer wrestler, along with WCW’s Daffney being the challengers for Kong more than make up for Knuckles. Hopefully Kong kills Becky next week.

5. When Nash turned his back on Joe, Joe really should have hit him. Does trusting your ally ever pay off in TNA?

6. The stupid bachelor party segments had no payoff and took up far too much time. The Kip James portions was actively terrible. This was the opposite of good television.

7. Because that took so many segments, the AJ angle and all surrounding it (which is about 9 wrestlers) got three segments all show. Given that these are the main eventers people supposedly tune in for, shouldn’t they have gotten more segments than the midcard comedy angle?

8. Note to Don West: A crazed wrestling fan will kill you if you keep saying backward moonsault. All moonsaults are backwards. A backward moonsault would be, I guess, either a swanton bomb or a flying cross body.

9. Line of the night goes to Kurt: “Shut up! You’re probably sleeping with my wife, too!” Funny and gets over the irrational jealousy.

10. So they put Matt Morgan and LAX on one team, meaning one of my favorite singles wrestlers is a partner with one of my favorite tag teams. TNA somehow managed to still ruin this, putting them against the unwatchables- Kip James and Lance Hoyt, two of the worse wrestlers around. What did James Storm do to deserve this filler role? He’s as talented as Roode, but Robert gets the main event push.
