The UFC really knows how to cater to its audiences when it comes to DVDs. They release every pay per view pretty consistently, but whenever they’ve done something special on DVD it always caters to exactly what its fans enjoy the most. With their Ultimate Knockouts series, Zuffa takes some of the more memorable knockouts of the last several years for an hour of knockouts.

Focusing from the second Randy Couture – Chuck Liddell fight through Anderson Silva’s knockout of Chris Leben, including the Matt Hughes – Royce Gracie fight, it’s a greatest hits of the last several years.

One thing the UFC really has gotten better at over the years in their series is that they cut out a lot of the filler before the knockout. Hosted by Mike Goldberg, the film cuts to the setup of the knockout as opposed to the entire fight until that point for a smoother release onto DVD, thus making it a more exciting and deliberate 60 minutes. It makes for a better viewing, as it goes from knockout to knockout quickly. It makes for a much more engaging effort than prior releases. Goldberg sets up where we are in the fight and who’s fighting, as well as any special circumstances as well.

Zuffa really has developed their DVDs more effectively and it shows here. For those who are MMA fans, this is a definite own for your collection.

Presented in a Dolby Digital surround with a widescreen presentation, the DVD’s a/v varies wildly throughout the DVD. Some fights are preliminary fights and thus don’t have good audio/visual to them, while others that are main events

Behind the Matchup is a brief text that gives you a context to each knockout.

Bare bones at best, Ultimate Knockouts 5 is a quick compilation of knockouts for the viewer who cares only for the art of making a man unconscious.
