Make Movement: Chris Jericho Is BACK

Columns

Even though I believe the McMahon Money Mania is distracting to the product, there was one shining VIP of last night on the wrestling landscape, and it was Chris Jericho. Jericho’s promo made him the best written character of the night, and a smart heel. It’s nice to get excited about Jericho again because now he is able to show the WWE what was always true – you can count on Jericho to deliver.

The tie-in with Lance Cade (who I’ve deemed a version of Paul Orndorff) was a nice touch that no one expected and I think they can tie it to Shawn Michaels’ days of helping train guys into the business. I hope they bring that up and go in that direction and I hope Cade can deliver. Cade has never been one of my favorite wrestlers, sure he’s big, but I’ve never felt he has the personality to be a singles wrestler. However, if he gets a main event rub from all the wrestlers in the best written storyline in the WWE, then all the better.

It was also nice seeing Ric Flair who got a hero’s welcome in Salt Lake City last night, and I’m sure they’ll find ways to pepper him in storylines without having him actively returning. I want the retirement to stay honored. Triple H being involved too is also intriguing, especially because he didn’t protest Flair’s dismissal from the building, but I wonder if there was too much Triple H last night because he already has his hands full with a frustrating John Cena.

Cena’s promos cry out for a heel turn because his baby face abilities to put over the WWE are stale. We know what show we’re watching, we’re aware it’s the flagship, we get it. It’s interesting for Cena to say he’s the standard….he’s not the one with the belt. This is the perfect opportunity to have Cena lose control and turn heel, but WWE seems afraid to pull Cena out of the Hogan-like persona.

Cryme Tyme losing in less than 10 seconds because of Dibiase Jr.’s distraction is uncalled for considering that they are indeed over. It’s also nice to see Mickie James involved in a storyline that doesn’t involve John Cena. I’m curious to see how far Katie Lea goes because she has a great amount of potential and if they let the girls actually build a program, I think Katie versus Mickie could be very good for both of them right now.
