10 Thoughts on Impact – 06.19.2008

Reviews, Shows, TV Shows

1. If Joe loses to Booker because “he hasn’t been were Booker’s been” doesn’t that imply that WWE and it’s talent are better than TNA?

2. We see the importance of the World X-Cup as they cut away for AJ jumping Tomko. Show it post match as something that happened moments ago! To cut away from a live match takes away from the purpose of a wrestling show.

3. Awesome Kong vs. the fans gets better and better as they get close to beating her. The pops get bigger and it gets more intriguing seeing who will be the one to make it. Taylor looked good and I hope to see more of her in TNA.

4. Kazarian and Kozlov are fairly similar. Both are PWG guys with good, if bland, looks and builds. Both have Eastern European sounding last names and are good wrestlers who can also fly quite effectively. In an era past they’d make a decent undercard tag team. That team could really work assuming both gain a mutual respect for each other during the World X Cup. Going into a feud against the Machine Guns would be great.

5. Christian has become my girlfriend’s favorite wrestler through sheer presence and mic skill. He stands out as a star. Him teaming with AJ Styles made her a TNA fan. Sometimes it really is that simple.

6. On a related note, the announcers made a big deal about AJ and Christian being even now, with AJ not subservient, but Cage, the face, still has a second who’s in basically the same role as AJ Styles: Rhino. I’m not sure if this is cleverly and subtly showing that Cage remains essentially the same person or just another example of TNA screwing up.

7. LAX aren’t allowed to hit Jaquelline. That’s good, but they sure could hold her while Selinas took her out. Since they have no qualms about that sort of action, the segment didn’t make a whole lot of sense. I’ve always hated Jacky, either way, so this wasn’t a segment that interested me very much.

8. Booker goes over BG James free… It amazes me that James, a second generation guy, simply cannot work after all these years. At least Booker essentially squashed him.

9. Motor City Machine Guns vs. Daivari and Tyson Dux was great tag formula. The MCMG got their shine, then each was worked over. Hot tags then lead to near falls, as the heels tried to sneak a win. The Guns team work proves too much and they manage to come out ahead. Good stuff, even if Dux did look considerably worse than everyone else in the ring.

10. Morgan’s push has been strange as can be. He is a major personality for ages as Cornette’s bodyguard and gets over. They then tease him wrestling Joe for a bit, don’t pull the trigger and have him in a few meaningless generic face spots. He remains over due to the earlier push so they put him against the heat vacuum Kip James. That is unsurprisingly terrible so he goes back to the generic face role before being pulled from having matches. Not wrestling, they do a vignette to get over his personality, which is already over, rather than having the huge, athletic guy wrestle and kill some folks in order to get his in-ring stuff over. The big push here should happen soon as his American Gladiators featured spot is fast arriving. If he’s over at that point, he’s the easiest new star in ages, so TNA had better get a move on.
