We are one week away from Night of Champions and it’s ECW’s job to hype the crap out of it because, let’s face it, nobody has time to watch Smackdown on Friday nights. What better way to hype the PPV than Kane laughing at a wall! This was a very long and confusing hour. Join me as I give 10 Thoughts on ECW.
1. Teddy Long opened the show stating that there is one thing the injured Mr. McMahon would want to happen and that is for the show to go on. This is extremely cheesy. Vinne Mac is going to wake up and return to RAW next week with amnesia, never remembering giving any type of respect to the fans or giving away millions of his dollars. Bank on it.
2. So, CM Punk got drafted to RAW and yet he is teaming with Matt Hardy to take on ECW Superstars and Smackdown Tag Team Champions John Morrison and The Miz. Could this get any more confusing? Though it is extremely confusing, I will continue to give Morrison and Miz their credit as I think of them as the best tag team in the WWE right now.
3. Matt Hardy is the little engine that could, but never will. He is very popular with the fans, but he just has no character. He’s gone nowhere in his career since splitting with Lita and hopefully will develop a character and microphone skills on ECW.
4. Every single week, Tazz mis-pronounces “frustrating” as “fusstratin'”. And every week Adamle makes up for it when he says “Uno, Dos… ADIOS!”.
5. Kofi Kingston vs. Shelton Benjamin with Extreme Rules was a great match. I was originally upset that this match was Extreme Rules, I wanted to see these two go at it to see who is the better wrestler. The trash can lids, microphones and chairs just elevated this feud to a new level. Awesome.
6. Before we go to commercial Adamle and Tazz inform us of the main event: Kane vs. Mark Henry. So the main-event of an ECW Television Show is a RAW Superstar against a Smackdown Superstar. Greaaaaaaat.
7. I just realized Night of Champions is on my birthday.
8. One of the segments only consisted of the WWE Draft Recap, a breakdown of Night of Champions and Kane laughing at a wall. Can you say “ratings”?
9. The finish to the Bourne/Knoxx match was pretty good. Bourne was going for a spinning heel kick and Knoxx caught him in mid-air, gave him a backbreaker and then the Knoxx Out. A nice looking combo.
10. The only good thing that came out of the main event was a little marquee popping up at the bottom of the screen confirming a Supplemental Draft.
Commentators Say the Darndest Things
Adamle: Uno, Dos, ADIOS! (Adamle counting a three-count)
Adamle: He hit those, stair, face, FLUUUSH! (After Shelton threw Kofi into the ring steps)
Adamle: Big Red Regime— (Mispronouncing Big Red Machine while Kane stares at a wall)
Tazz: It looks like he’s about to pull his rotated cuff off! (While Knoxx gave an Abdominal Stretch to Bourne)
Adamle: Kofi could have broken that pin if he put his foot on the rope.
Tazz: It don’t matta if you put the foot, it doesn’t matta with the Extreme Rules, it don’t matta, it don’t matt, it doesn’t matta!
