BLATT vs. ECW – 6/24/08 Edition

Reviews, Shows, Top Story, TV Shows

We start the show with, what else, a recap of the McMahon “accident”. For more on that, read my column from yesterday Deconstructing the Moveset Special: Million Dollar Moneyshot.

In the ring, Teddy Long stands solo and says that everyone in ECW is keeping Vince in their thoughts. This is EERILY like Vince’s speech the night after Chris Benoit’s tribute. Starting the show without music, with the authority figure in the ring. I doubt it was intentional, but jesus fuck guys, you HAD to know that this is on our minds. Teddy Long shifts the mood by introducing Matt Hardy and the US Title to ECW.

Matt Hardy and CM Punk over The Douches by Twist of Fate
Okay, so what happens when you’re drafted to Raw? You obviously appear on your old show twenty four hours after being drafted away from it. Hardy and Morrison start the match. C&E, Hardy with an arm drag and the two stare down. Another C&E, Morrison gets a hammer lock, Hardy reverses it and tags Punk. Punk kicks the arm, snaps Morrison over and only gets a one. ONE!

Morrison gets a boot and takes Punk tot he heel corner. Morrison tags in Miz, who gets a boot in. Miz throws a forearm, whips Punk to the corner, misses a kick and takes a roundhouse. Punk drags Miz to the face corner, Punk and Hardy double team Miz a bit and Hardy is in. Miz reverses a whip and hits a back elbow. Hardy’s driven to the turnbuckle and Morrison is tagged in. Hardy takes punches in the corner, gets pulled off and Miz chokes Hardy behind the refs back. Miz is in and Hardy gets a rest hold put on him. Hardy fights out and hits a jawbreaker and tags in Punk. Punk hits a few back elbows and can only get a one. ONE! Punk anticipates Morrison and Hardy and Punk deliver double bulldogs. Punk goes for the springboard forearm, but Miz ducks. Punk runs to the ropes and Morrison lowers the middle rope, so Punk falls out of the ring. Miz is tagged back in and we head to commercials.

We’re back the the heels have control. Morrison goes for a pin and gets a two. TWO!

Morrison drags Punk to the apron and kicks his chest from the floor. Morrison throws a forearm to Punk and gets a talking to by the ref. Miz smacks Punk’s face to the canvas behind the refs back. Punk gets hit with a double gut buster for two. TWO!

Miz is in and stretches out Punk’s neck. Punk fights out and hits a few forearms to the gut and hits a bely to back suplex. Morrison gets the tag and cuts the ring short before Punk can get the tag. Morrison stretches out the neck, Punk fights out and gets Morrison in the GTS position, but Morrison rolls out. Hardy is tagged in , delivers a few clotheslines and a back body drop. Hardy goes to the second rope and hits an elbow for a two. TWO! Another two. TWO!

Miz comes in, Punk Cactus clotheslines him to the apron. Hardy hits an elbow, goes for the Twist of Fate, but is pushed to the ropes and tripped up by the Miz. Morrison hits the spring board kick to the face, but Hardy kicks out at two. TWO!

Hornswoggle comes out, distracts Miz and Morrison and Hardy hits the Twist of Fate on Morrison for the pin. Hardy and Punk toast each other with their belt and suitcase and we head for some replays.

Kofi Kingston over Shelton Benjamin by Trouble in Paradise
This match is under EXTREEM RULEZ. C&E to start, Shelton gets the upper hand, but Kofi throws punches. Kofi has a whip reversed and eats forearm. Shelton goes for a suplex, but Kofi floats over and hits Shelton with a flying forearm.Kofi bounces off the ropes, landing on this feet. Shelton goes outside, Kofi follows with a plancha. Shelton rams Kofi’s back to the apron. Tazz reminds us that it’s extreme rules, but the ref is counting for some reason. shelton hits Kofi with the announcer microphone and sends him shoulder first into the stairs. Shelton tosses some hardware into the ring, mostly garbage cans and lids and a chair. Shelton hits Kofi’s ribs with the chair and he heads into the ring. Kofi hits a few punches to the gut ,but Shelton comes back with a kick to the ribs.

Shelton LIFTS KOFI UP GORILLA PRESS and drops him with a gut buster. Shelton grabs a trash can and tosses it short distance to Kofi. Shelton wedges the trach can between the turnbuckles, but gets punched n the gut a few times when he approaches Kofi. Shelton rakes the eyes and goes for a trash can to the face, but Kofi catches it. Shelton boots Kofi and smacks him around the ring with the trash can. Shelton hits a suplex onto the trash can and Kofi looks like he’s in some pain.

Shelton continues the punishment to Kofi’s ribs and grabs a bear hug. Kofi fights up, Shelton punches him into the corner and hits a pair of Stinger splashes. On the third, Shelton eats a face full of garbage can lid. Kofi hits Shelton two more times and Shelton is down. Kofi hits a fourth time. Shelton attempts to get out, but Kofi slides out and smacks him again. Kofi grabs the chair in the ring and lifts it above his head. Shelton kicks him in the hip and Kofi drops the chair, Shelton lifts Kofi up in powerbomb position, but Kofi pulls a ‘rana and Shelton goes face first into the trash can wedged into the corner. Kofi hits the Trouble in Paradise and that’s the match.

Backstage, Kane is laughing. Tonight he’s going to fight Mark Henry. You remebmer Kane, right? He’s the ECW champion, but was drafted to Raw and he’s fighting a Smackdown wrestler. That makes sense, right?

Mike Knox over Evan Bourne by the Knox Out
Knox lumbers and Bourne out maneuvers him. Bourne uses his speed to keep up with Knox, but he’s hit with a short clothesline and that ends any momentum. Bourne is shipped to the corner and hit with a splash. Knox grabs Bourne in a double under hook and tightens it into a submission move. Knox hits a few knees and a forearm to the back before switching moves to an abdominal stretch. Bourne fights out, but gets a punch to the ribs instead. Knox whips Bourne to the ropes, but Bourne dives under a boot and hits a chop block. Bourne focuses on the leg and finally knocks him down with a missile drop kick for a two. Bourne approaches Knox, Knox tosses Bourne straight up into the air and Bourne hits a ‘rana. Bourne runs to the ropes and attempts a running kick, but is caught by Knox. Knox turns it into a backbreaker and finishes it with a twisting neckbreaker/ The Knox Out. I think this feud has legs if they can give Bourne some real wins.

Mark Henry over Kane by World’s Strongest Slam
The Big Show is at ringside, making the total weight of the wrestlers at ringside off the charts. Show is smart on the commentary before the match, makes me wish that he was on color commentary on one of the shows. Show is REALLY good on color commentary. Show says that it’s unsettling to be in the ring with Henry because of Henry’s strength, and he has to adjust his game because of it. Show is dominating the commentary, but it’s really super. I’d love to see Tazz calling a match with Show on color.

Forget the match, but watch this again to hear Show’s insight watching these two fight. Kane hits an enziguiri, which is surprising. Adamle attempts to speak up, but Show is all over this match. Henry hits the World’s Strongest Slam after knocking Kane off the top rope when Kane was focused on Show at ringside.
