What's Playing 08/08/08

There are a couple films opening up this week that are aimed at two totally different groups of people. One is garnered more towards younger women and shows a tale of friendship and getting through life together. The other is aimed at stoners and making people laugh. At least one of those films sounds good to me, but I’m willing to bet they don’t overtake the top spot from a certain Caped Crusader.

Wide Release

Pineapple Express – Starring Seth Rogen, James Franco, Gary Cole, Ed Begley Jr., and more. Stoner Dale Denton has only one reason to visit his equally lazy dealer Saul Silver: to purchase weed. Specifically a rare new variety called Pineapple Express. But when Dale becomes the only witness to a murder by a crooked cop and the city’s most dangerous drug lord, he panics and dumps his roach of Pineapple Express at the scene. Dale now has another reason to visit Saul: to find out if the weed is so rare that it can be traced back to him. And it is. As Dale and Saul run for their lives, they quickly discover that they’re not suffering from weed-fueled paranoia; incredibly, the bad guys really are hot on their trail and trying to figure out the fastest way to kill them both. Opened on Wednesday, August 6.

The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants 2 – Starring Amber Tamblyn, America Ferrera, Blake Lively, Alexis Bledel, and more. It has been three years and four lifelong friends get ready to embark on separate paths for their first year of college and the summer beyond, but remain in touch by sharing their experiences with each other as they always have-with honesty and humor. Discovering their individual strengths, fears, talents and capacity for love through the choices they make, they come to value more than ever the bond they share and the immeasurable power of their friendship. Opened on Wednesday, August 6.
