Murtzcellanious: LIVE Canadian Idol Recap – August 5

Time for your Idol results!
After 2.5 million votes were cast on Monday, I was pretty positive that Mitch MacDonald would be going home.

Ben opened the show and announced to the crowd that Tom Jones would be performing. After a recap of Monday’s performances, the Top 7 Idols came out for a group performance. It started with Mark and Amberly sitting on the piano and Theo later came out to join them.

After a couple of lines into the song, the ‘rocker’ contestants came out and joined the trio and Earl, Drew, Mookie and Mitch added a harder edge to the performance.

Tom Jones also made his first appearance of the show as he accompanied the Idols before breaking out into his classic hit “It’s Not Unusual.”

The crowd immediately jumped to their feet and sang along.

After a commercial break, Tom Jones returned to perform a single from his new album called “If He Should Ever Love You.” It was good, but definitely didn’t have the pizzazz that his first song did.

The couches were set-up during the next commercial break.

Top couch (from left to right): Drew, Amberly, Earl, Theo
Bottom couch (from left to right): Mitch, Mark, Mookie.

It was definitely another interesting alignment. Especially the top row. It obviously meant that at least one of either Drew, Amberly, Earl or Theo would be in the bottom three. I figured it would probably be Drew or Earl. Drew because he is from Ontario and Earl because I didn’t think he was particularly good on Monday.

In the bottom row, I was pretty positive that Mitch and Mark would round out the bottom.

It was time for Ben to announce the results.

Drew was safe.
Amberly was safe.
Earl wasn’t safe.
THEO WASN’T SAFE (what?)
MITCH WAS SAFE (what?)
Mark wasn’t safe.
Mookie was safe.

Unbelievable! Undoubtedly the most shocking result in Canadian Idol history. The only comparable episode was when Brian Melo, Carly Jepsen and Greg Neufeld made the bottom three last season.

When Ben announced that Mark Day would be going home, there was almost a collective sigh of relief that Theo was still in the competition.

Where are the Theo and Earl fans?

It’s definitely time to wake-up.

Check you Monday.
