Independent Run Down For 8/15

Unfortunately several weeks ago PWG had to postpone their annual Battle of Los Angeles tournament which normally takes place Labor Day weekend. However, out of that disappointment postponement has come the start studded All Star Weekend VII which is slated to take place the same weekend which BOLA would’ve taken place on (August 30th and 31st). It’s safe to say that these two shows could possibly be PWG’s most stacked cards to date (minus the past BOLA shows of course). Talent from all over the United States and Japan are being brought in for these two shows. Some new faces have been brought in along with the usual suspects along with the long awaited return of a certain wrestler…

Lets start off by covering the card for night one.

-Scorpio Sky vs. Vin Gerard: Firstly, it’s good to see some new blood make their way into PWG and even more so it’s good news because it’s Vin Gerard. Now, both men were once masked men in wrestling so that’s a interesting little bit of information coming into the match. Not sure how the match will exactly play out but hopefully Gerard is able to impress and secure future bookings.

-Candice LaRae vs. Chuck Taylor: Yet another fresh face making their debut in PWG, that being Chuck Taylor. While this match probably won’t be that good from a technical sense, it’s bound to be an absolutely hilarious comedy match. Much like Gerard, hopefully Chuck can impress and get more bookings.

-El Generico, Kevin Steen, & Susumu Yokosuka vs. Jack Evans, Pac, & Roderick Strong: A little international flavor to this match with Steen & Generico from north of the border, Yokosuka from Japan, and Pac from England. All of these men have at one time or another graced a Dragon Gate ring and it’s safe to say the influence of Dragon Gate will play into this match in a big way. This match is going to be an all out sprint with spots galore. The match could easily steal the show for nights one and two.

-Jimmy Jacobs & Tyler Black vs. Young Bucks: Jacobs & Black will be making their first defense of the PWG Tag Team Titles against the up and coming Young Bucks. From what I’ve heard these two teams had a very good match back at All Star Weekend VI so I’m expecting more or the same this time around. Don’t see Black & Jacobs dropping the titles just yet because they really haven’t been able to get their reigned started.

-Chris Hero vs. Eddie Kingston vs. Necro Butcher vs. Low Ki: Yes, that’s right Low Ki will be making his long awaited return to PWG and wrestling at ASW VII. This will be Hero’s first defense of the PWG Championship and boy is it a big one. There are a lot of stories coming into this match, Ki and Necro are no strangers to each other having met one another at least three times on the indy scene, Hero and Kingston’s feud has been well documented, and Hero and Ki even have history going at it a couple of times back in late 2006. This match will surely get hard hitting and stiff quickly, expect a lot of kicks, punches, chops, and forearms to be thrown around in this one.

Now, moving onto the card for night two.

-Kevin Steen & El Generico vs. Young Bucks: This match could end up being a PWG Tag Team Title match which I doubted but regardless of the titles being on the line or not, this is certainly an interesting match. I don’t think Generico will have any probably meshing with the Young Bucks style but I worry if Steen will be able to. Either way, I still think this match will turn out to be good. Steen & Generico will grab the win and likely become number one contenders.

-Eddie Kingston vs. Necro Butcher: Two of the hardest hitters on the indy scene will do battle in this match. This match could potentially be for the PWG Championship but I doubt it. This match will likely be a hard hitting affair and I’m hoping the match escalates into a brawl because it would make the match a lot better then Kingston and Necro just exchanging chops and punches in the ring. The match should be good especially if it turns into a brawl.

-Jimmy Jacobs & Tyler Black vs. Roderick Strong & Jack Evans: This is the match I’m most looking forward two from the weekend of shows. The match was originally supposed to take place at PWG’s anniversary show but was canceled due to travel issues with Evans but now it’s going to happen. I’m not quite sure if my excitement for the match could be any higher. Black & Jacobs are currently my favorite duo to watch and Strong & Evans are a tremendously good tag team. This match could easily be a high match of the year candidate when it’s done.

-Low Ki vs. Rocky Romero: Another potentially hard hitting match is on tap for night two. To my knowledge this is a first ever meeting between the two and I’m hopeful the match doesn’t disappoint because it has the potential to be as good as the matches in the Romero/Strong series. A lot of kicks will be thrown and like Necro/Kingston, I hope the match is more than just brutal strikes. I’m hoping the match has some substances to it because it’s got some serious potential.

-Chris Hero vs. Pac: The main event to cap off the star studded weekend is another first time match to my knowledge. Definite contrast of styles in this match but a match I’m looking forward to. I think the match could be as good as the series of matches between Pac and Generico if not better. I haven’t seen much of Pac recently so I’m hoping he’s still as good, if not better than the last time I saw him. Definitely feel this is a fitting match to close the weekend and would be shocked if it disappoints.

Well, that covers the big matches for All Star Weekend VII. Now, I didn’t cover every single match on the weekend but if you’d like to check out the matches I missed and keep yourself up to date with the daily happenings of the shows head over to PWG’s sub-site dedicated to ASW VII. Also, don’t forget that PWG Sells Out is currently available at major retail chains and features 9 hours of PWG action over the course of 3 discs. The set is getting rave reviews from everyone and for $15 it’s safe to say it’s a must buy DVD for a die hard indy fan or just a fan looking to get familiar with the PWG product.
